Dante ended up getting in trouble and got suspended for several days. I got nothing but sympathy from most of my classmates.

It gets better! Oak Harbor is home to NAS Whidbey Island, and a lot of people are military. My dad was the commanding officer to the parents many of my classmates, including some who were dumb enough to pick on me. Dante was among those, and my dad liked Dante's dad a lot. My dad described Dante's dad as one of the nicest guys he'd ever met. So, when Dante's dad found out that his son was suspended for brutally kicking the son of his commanding officer, and completely unprovoked, Dante had a very a bad time when he got home. I'm pretty sure he was grounded for the entire time he was suspended. Needless to say, Dante never fucked with me after that little episode.

That was one of those rare times when everything worked in my favor, but it still left me with a powerful distrust of other people.

More on the $3 million East Oakland mansion...

So the guys laying the brick for the new sidewalk were on their lunch break and we got to talking. They're like "Wanna go around back and see the whole house?"

You didn't really think I'd turn down and opportunity like that, now would you?

    The built-in fish pond...
    image.jpg image.jpg

The outdoor gazebo building thing, with huge hand-laid stone fireplace...

    image.jpg image.jpg

    Back of semi-attached 3-car garage...
    image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

    image.jpg

The inside is pretty much done...
    image.jpgimage.jpg

For such a large house on a relatively small lot in Doylestown Borough, the builder made excellent use of the space directly behind the house!
    image.jpg

Through the breezeway to the driveway...
    image.jpg

Huge Generac natural gas whole-house generator...
    image.jpg

So, here I am, quite possibly the most HVAC-obsessed guy in the Mid-Atlantic. I've just been given permission to walk around a property with clearly-posted NO TRESPASSING signs and take pictures...

The ductwork for the central A/C was installed when the house was framed, but the actual air-conditioners have not been installed yet! This is a $3 million house so I'm guessing no expense was spared anywhere, including A/C! Those are gonna be some NICE units, and I had the perfect opportunity to take pictures!

    :annoyed:

There's my Taco, parked across the street!
    image.jpgimage.jpg image.jpg

As I said before, this is private property that I was given permission to enter, and one of the things I really wanted to see and photograph hasn't been installed yet!
    image.jpg

And here is the brick sidewalk I mentioned in the beginning of the post...

    Sooo...

Guess what kind of truck the owner of the bar where I work drives?!?!

Owner's husband is a very good attorney, and that fine Italian sedan parked next to the Tundy belongs to another lawyer at his law firm!

These photos were originally posted in my personal thread on Tundras.com...

Seriously, I was given specific permission by both the bar owner, and the owner of the Maserati, to photograph their vehicles for what I described as "my blog on a Toyota truck owners' forum." You think I could resist the opportunity to photograph two of the vehicles I'd buy if I won the lottery, right next to each other?

I've got a funny story about this particular Tundra. The owner of the bar has a vacation home in Vermont. The General Manager (my boss) went up there with them for a few days but had to come back early. Owner handed her the keys to the $60,000, EZ Pass-equipped Tundra, and said all she had to do was pay for any gas she used. The Tundra made it from Vermont back to Pennsylvania on one tank of gas, and I don't even think the warning light came on (though it was pretty damn low on gas). My boss wasn't about to let me drive the Tundra, but she made me an offer I couldn't refuse...

Help me with the grocery shopping for the kitchen tonight, and we'll take the Tundra...

First order of business was to get gas. My boss is very smart, but she doesn't much about cars or how they work. She's like "Charlie, this takes diesel, right...?" I immediately started laughing uncontrollably. After I regained control of myself, I'm like "What the hell gave you that idea?"

Her response was that "It's a truck. I just assumed..."

I'm like "You think it takes diesel just because it's a truck?"

I told her that even a V8 Tundra just takes regular 87 gasoline, and that if it took diesel, there would be a thing on the gauge cluster that said "DIESEL FUEL ONLY."

This isn't a woman thing, either, before you go accusing me of being sexist...

My friend Doug, another Aspie, is so clueless about basic vehicle maintenance that it is comical. Luckily he his parents and me to remind him and give him at advice...

He once called me, totally freaking out, because what he described as the "CHECK ENGINE light" in his 2011 Nissan Altima 3.5SL had come on on. After a couple minutes of talking, I realized that the maintenance light had come on. While ignoring this light can lead to problems, it is way less urgent than a check engine light. His car just needed an oil change...

A 5-lug Taco with a "fake posi" Auto-LSD can be unpredictable on the untreated backroads of the Philly burbs during a snowstorm, as I've found out before...

So, took my mom's Murano to work today!

Nice house! And some nice cars!

I was going to ask you how your Taco does in the snow.

We got quite a bit of snow here in northwestern Virginia but none stuck to then roads!

Check engine light is 99% emission related bullshit. When your check engine light blinks then you have a real problem.

I managed to break the horn in my Taco one time, and it wouldn't stop beeping so I had to disconnect it. This made the check engine light come on!

I've never had the check engine light blink though!

My Taco does okay in the snow. The aforementioned "fake posi rear" actually works quite well. It got me out of a ditch one time. Pressing a button on the dash shuts off the traction control and simulates a locking rear differential, which has gotten me up hills in the snow on a few occasions.
