First impression of Woodford Reserve (bought a gift pack that included a nice whiskey glass for the same price as a 750ml bottle alone):
    1) Nose - spicy, with hint of minty chocolate (ie, Andes Creme de menthe like Olive Garden gives with bill)
    2) Taste - light chocolate with a hint of mint, spicy
    3) Finish - kinda short but warm and spicy, mint returns with faint chocolate

The distiller's notes say "fruit" but I just get spicy with minty chocolate, no fruit at all.

You can try all their whiskeys at the bourbon barrel in Sonora.

Pretty good but last I heard they are still waiting on their whiskey to mature. So a lot of their early stuff was blended with aged stuff from Kentucky.

I’ve also heard it’s a pretty cool distillery. I work with someone who knows the owner. Unfortunately i haven’t been there yet...

As mentioned previously Glenfiddich had a tasting at the local BevMo. They had this whisky that was finished in IPA beer casks. I have to say it was decent, had a spicy quality. I'd drink it again, but wouldn't buy a bottle at the asking price.

I tapped my new bottle of Glenlivet 18 tonight. So good I went back for a second. May have to get a third!

Makers 46 is my favorite on ice with a splash of water.

    Buffalo trace is good.

A blended Jamison and ginger is nice sometimes too

Having a woodford reserve on ice now. I find it to be ok.

Colorado is beer country - huge IPA fan but have been dabbling in the bourbon/whiskey game for a few weeks

There's been a single bottle of that at my local Class 6 for some time now. Guessing no one want's to take a chance on the unknown at that price.

I've always gotten bananas throughout from WR. Haven't had it in a couple years at least though. I've always been intrigued how much tastes can change even day to day.

Thats why I started asking the stores if they have whisky tastings. Total Wine - no, but BevMo - yes. They don't publish the schedule and it's just a distiller rep, so you just get the one company. But it's a good way to try before you buy. Next weekend it's Balvinie. I will stop by and give them a try.

What's odd is I didn't taste any oak/nuttiness at all. That nuttiness is pretty typical of (a lot of) bourbon. And all of the others I've had so far have had that.

Haha yeah I’m just finishing up a glass, and I’ll admit, I’m no expert when it comes to good whiskey/bourbons, so I don’t have all the correct terminology if you will, but I had it neat, and I can only say that it’s pretty smooth.

Tried the Old Forester 86 tonight.
Nose - Spicy (alcohol), vanilla, pine-y/mint-y (couldn't tell if it was one or both)
Taste - Vanilla and spice (adding water made it spicier and gave it a more oaky/nutty taste but didn't do anything to the nose)
Finish - short and warm, smooth

(Note - Both Old Forester and Woodford Reserve are made by the same distiller, Brown-Forman)

Decently priced ($8 for 325/ml, $20 for 750 @ totalwine). Totalwine's "experts" say it's a 95/100. To me it didn't have as much going on as say the WL Weller Reserve, but you can still drink this neat (if you so choose).

The wife said she liked it better than the Glenmorangie Lasanta (which was her choice tonight), but I'm finding I'm leaning toward the single-malt Scotch's, especially the sherry bombs.

I have felt the same with other SOL whiskeys. Their IPA infused was the best I've had so far. Going to look for the Lovecraft Whiskey they just released this week.

After a few (ok, more than a few) drams of the Glenlivet 18 I have to say I like the Suntory Harmony better.

When at Total Wines before I was talking to one of their guys about Japanese whiskies and they only have a small selection. He said they only get a small amount of Harmony and it goes fast. I was thinking about this today when I noticed my bottle is less than half full. I just checked the local TW and BevMo on line and both said selection limited and may not be in stock. Yikes! Going to go today and see if I can secure another bottle.

The love craft sounds interesting for sure. I want to get down there and do a tour this winter.

I did get a winter sampler pack with some flavored whiskeys from them as a gift. Pumpkin, apple and honey Camomile. I was anticipating the typical NyQuil flavored additives but they all tasted like whiskey with subtle hints of what ever flavor. Flavored whiskey for people whom don’t like flavored whiskeys. Pumpkin one was great. That’s why I tried the battle cry.
