I guess this makes sense to everybody but me. Why did you do this if it doesn't increase performance? And it isn't visible to anyone unless they are on their back?

It's for increased ground clearance off road. If you don't do the reroute, your skid plate in that area also has to hang low. With the reroute, it's all smooth.

Here's an example of a skid plate designed for a stock tacoma. With the reroute, that drop down is not there.

Kinda an odd route, why didn’t you just go around the transfer case?

Well I brought in a pic of the transfer case reroute but the guys at the muffler shop said it would be too hard, more expensive, and they'd have to move the y pipe. Or something like that, I don't remember exactly. It's a good shop with good reviews on yelp so I took their word for it. They got the pipe up an inch or so and I think it's fine my off road needs.

If I do a reroute, this is how I'll do it as well. Just enough to get a flat skid plate on there is all I care about.

I'm happy with the work. I know they had done a few others for that price and no one had any complaints. Showed them a pic of it to go off of and they did exactly what I needed. They offered to remove the 2nd cat but I was going for clearance not power so I had them leave it. I showed up when they opened since they dont take appointments and was heading home about an hour later.

Just got mine done at Quality muffler in Olympia. I had him do a little more work than most. Great job with good clearance. He did new y-pipe and moved the connection back to the front of the muffler.FABB5413-B09A-46B1-802F-A34988B431B2.jpg

So the legit shops in my town all say they won’t do it due to warranty- has anyone had issues with Toyota for rerouting theirs yet? One shop said I could do it myself with the URD bolt on y-pipe, but I don’t want to hassle with the issues that brings with Toyota or DMV if I don’t swap it back before their looking at it.

I was warned about the warranty when I had mine done and told them I didnt care, I already voided the suspension warranty. They proceeded with no complaints. As for the DMV I didnt remove anything so they have no reason to have any issues. My truck will still pass all inspections and smog tests. Its just a reroute no change to emissions, The shop did ask if I wanted to go ahead and remove the secondary cat and I told them to leave it in since I wasnt trying to get more power, I only wanted clearance for my skids. Even if I had the secondary cat removed it isnt needed for inspections. This is in Tx though, not sure what the laws are where you live.

I would like to hear from others if this actually picked up any fuel mileage. It seems like it would have to because of how inefficient the stock design is, but I also understand a well designed exhaust is half science and half black magic.
