Actually if you look at the stats, tobacco (second hand smoke) kills way more people then car accidents in the US each year. Tobacco is not a substance that affects the mainly the user. Actually secondhand smoke alone kills WAY more people then homicides each year. You don't ever see tobacco bans being debated on TV though, but I digress.

I plan on buying a 18 because of TSS, but I too want the option of disabling it.

The brief googling I did indicated it's about the same these days. In the neighborhood of 40,000/year. But the toll for second-hand-smoke is a vague estimate based off deaths from certain diseases that are linked to SHS. There's no way to attribute a death directly to second-hand-smoke so it's an estimation at best, albeit accurate enough I'd wager. It's definitely considered to be more deadly than I thought though. Thanks for pointing that out.

So after 5 pages still wondering if there's an answer to my original question. Can this be turned off permanently? I know you can do it via menus but it comes back on every start. On some other Toyota vehicles they hide the button under the steering column or in a not obvious place (so you can't find it :)
Someone with a 2018 go dig around under the steering wheel and dash to see if they have a backdoor nub for this.
If not maybe you can interact with default settings via techstream? And for the naysayers who think this is great and I should just leave it on this is me skipping past your posts :blahblah: :lalala:

Only if the cruise control is on though right ? Cause it won’t brake unless the cruise is activated

PCS needs to be turned off each time you start the vehicle. It is quick but so far haven’t found a way to disable permanently.

That being said, so far I like all of the TSS features. The collision system is my biggest concern but I believe it always warns you before taking action. I’m thinking the probability it helps outweighs the chance that it screws you over. I didn’t buy a manual truck in order to have a computer do things for me, however so far I really like radar cruise.
Lane departure can be disabled easily on the steering wheel. There is no button for the pre collision system.

That's great for all the off-roaders. I was thinking they would have to do something like this, or loose a lot of potential customers who take the trucks out to the boonies.

It's not intrusive as so many non TSS owners are making it out to be. I literally tried my damndest to set it off, and it isn't as sensitive as they make it out to be.

Not exaggeration, true experience. Cruise control was on, which is why it did what it did. No more cruise, problem solved.

Yea I have about 2,000 miles of interstate driving and no issues. I think it works great and I like knowing it will only works while cruise control is set. It’s very easy to turn off in the settings.

TSS only works when cruise control is on? So it doesn't work during city driving?

It’s keep telling me it only works over 35 mph that and lane departure Alarm. But if you flip on cruise at let’s say 40 and cruise through town it will slow down through down below 35 I think

Unless Toyota has set the Collision prevention system totally different than the Subaru system -- THIS IS NOT TRUE! The auto braking is NOT dependent on the cruise being on. If you are headed for a collision through your fault or someone elses -- the vehicle will try and prevent it -that is if you are not quick enough to the brake pedal. That's the way the Subaru system works. Toyota owns 18% of Subaru, and Subaru has had some form of the safety system available since 2008.

God, I wish people would stop putting out this BS when they know nothing about the system and have absolutely no experience with it!
