What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Huh. Neat. I'll have to keep this in mind when I replace the rear brake line with the LCE SS one. I didn't bother changing it out when I did my Tundra brakes.

I did the gravity method with the bottle and tubing on only the front brakes when I did my upgrade. I was too lazy to do the rear. I told myself I'd do a proper brake flush when I do the rear brake line.

I did notice the brakes are a little spongier but stop a lot better.

 

Yep the gun liner was fubar'd for some reason, kinda weird as it had so few hours on it. Picked up a new one at Central Welding for 20 bucks and it's as good as new!

 

Like I said it is a one time thing unless you chemically foul your brakes and it is easy to do on your way to work or whatever so it wasn't worth contesting, that and I see nobody but yourself contesting it so it didn't even cross my mind that it might just be an old myth. If you can prove it bunk good on you, it's not critical but I don't think you can fully judge your brakes unless you at least try what the manufacturer suggests. If you're happy with your brakes don't worry about it.

 

My tundra brakes were terrible when I first did the swap. Probably bled the system over 6 times but eventually they came around. Figured I just had air still in the system. They are great now but also have a slightly softer pedal feel over stock but you get used to it

 

Are we talking about brake bedding? From experience without bedding the brakes on my truck they performed horribly and made a terrible grinding noise. If you brake at low speeds you can feel the truck shudder and grind. Once I did the proper bed in procedure (going up to 60 and slowing down several times, hard stops, etc etc) the grinding was gone and the braking improved. This was true for both my Tacoma PowerStop brakes and my recent Tundra brake upgrade.

Right there on the metal tube going into the lower master cylinder. I can see it in your picture.

It's a little unclear in the pic, just wanted to verify.

 

It’s an 02 and to be fair it might have been user error and not the truck because I did the rear brake line at the same time so who knows how much air I let in...

Side note from the brake talk... built some mounts that attach to the RTT rails to hold the track boards tonight. Still clears all the camp totes and gear so that’s a huge plus!



And picked up another set of quick fists to mount up the shovel

 

Do you know if all '01-'04s had the same combination diaphram/MC? Is that what your '03 has? I just went and looked at mine, it is the same setup as what Daniel has. @Dan8906

I ask because I recall you saying that Igor does not have a soft pedal.

 

More likely that the service manual would have that entry

 

Installed an Avid bed rack tonight

 

I wouldn't think that the typical new vehicle buyer would even know to look at the service manual. Doesn't seem like 'brake bedding' information would be helpful there. Much more useful in the owners manual if anywhere.

 

Igor doesn't have soft pedal, but it was a lot of (unnecessary) work to get there.
