I just plugged your conditions into KBB, spat out private party value of $4200. Fair instead of excellent only knocks a grand off.

Time to make my build page!
Banks around here use KBB because the values run high. This gives them more room to write you that loan. Especially high are private party values. Try NADA or see what the average price is on Cars.com.

I completely agree with you lol. Just using the criteria the gentleman quoted did and got a number 4x higher than he said.
My guess is that truck would be worth around $2500-3000

    Even reg cab 2.4 2wd 300,000mi fair condition shows $1500. That’s 50% more.

The original price of a 95 plain regular cab was probably not all that high so it seems like it retained a good bit of value

Here is an excellent reason to buy a Toyota. I agree with you about $2.5 to $3, but it appears we would be low. I didn't read back to see if it was 4x4, but a single cab one year newer lists shows for almost $7,000. Wow. There's an even one that looks like a worked over turd, 2x4, for $2,500. Cars.com calls that a good deal. I'd pay $1000 all day and sell it on eBay for 2-4x what I paid.

Just for fun I priced my truck. 2007 Double Cab TRD OR with a little less than 80,000 miles. KBB gives me a value between $16.6K and $19K. Yet if I go online, a truck with miles similar to mine is $21,888. I had a random guy offer me $17,500 a few months back when I came out of the store. Said he sold his and regretted it. I told thanks, but no. Granted many online prices can drop somewhat when the deal is done, but the demand characteristics of our trucks keep the prices high.

I know multiple people with F-150's running Ecoboost engines that haven't had any issues at all. That's not to say they can't have issues, when you are producing as many trucks per year as Ford, some duds are bound to get through.

Is it just me or does the new Ranger look a lot like the current Hilux?

Yes the international version of the Ranger does appear similar but they are also sold in the same markets

I worked at an autogroup that included Ford, we actually serviced ALL California Highway Patrol vehicles for San Diego. When it was the crown vics we pretty much always just did maintenance and a few random repairs (starters, alternators, etc...).

CHP switched the to EcoBoost Explorer and HOLY SHIT they're keeping that dealership in business. Anytime I go by there theres at least 3-4 CHP explorers in for MAJOR work. Blown Turbos, bad transmissions, power steering problems etc etc etc. Know any CHP officers?? How them what they think of the Explorer...

So it was no surprise at all that the CHP is already ditching the explorer and just started buying Dodge Chargers to replace the explorer fleet, they used crown vics for over 20 years... they only used explorers for 4 years lol.

Also those crown vics would get taken up to 250k+ miles before the CHP would retire them. The new explorers?? They're retiring most at 100k miles because they become too unreliable for patrol duty after that.

These Rangers looked awesome when I was in asia last week... and the Hilux I thought looked better in person than in the pics frankly.

I worked for a large dept in south Ga. We got 4 of each, Explorers and Taurus to test out. They were garbage. 6 out of the 8 vehicles broke within the first 10 days. The Taurus I was issued puked a turbo 5 days in. Granted we were trying to break them, and they did. Dept now runs Chargers, Challengers, and a few Holden Caprices. Ford fucked themselves with the LE market when they did away with the Crown Vic.

Yeah every cop and CHP officer I've asked about it HATES the explorers. To be clear I don't necessarily think its a FORD problem as much as its just a terrible idea to use turbos on ANY vehicles that need to be reliable and rack up miles. Turbocharged ANYTHING is inherently less reliable than NA engines, doesn't matter if its ford or Toyota.

Which is why I'm skeptical of Honda moving everything over to turbocharged (new accord and new CRV only come in turbo now). Right now Toyota and Honda are seen as equals when it comes to dependability, with Honda going turbo I think in 5-8 years from now we'll see a big change in that perception. I think Toyota is smart to keep it conservative and slow in adopting tech like CVTs and turbo's.

Its gonna keep trending that way in order to meet CAFE Standards, smaller and smaller displacements with hairdryers.

Burning out an empty truck from a stop light is not really an impressive test. I posted earlier about this, regarding steep grades and towing. An empty 3.4 auto going up a substantial freeway grade suck ass. Constant downshifting and struggling even with ECT. With a load in the bed, it would be worthless.
