I’ve used both hema and Gaia this past year. Gaia was better by a long shot. I tried it over the course of a week using a free trial. See if you can do the same.

Yeah I just want it for trickle charging. I don't have a fridge. Just a 7 day cooler, but it will stay cold long past 7 days. I have a small pelican case that i put stuff in i dont want to get soggy, and just put that down in the icewater. Fridges are nice, however I don't see the need for a $1000 fridge in the United States, too many stores. Maybe on the way up the dalton or dempster hwys, but even then they are only 500 miles or 4 to 5 days max. I do want one of those cradles that you can pull out and drop the fridge/cooler down beside the bed. Do they sell those in America?

That sounds big enough. There's 2 of us (wife and i) I was thinking the fridge and a good cooler woill do it. I want to be able to plan for a week so thought I could pack pre prepped meals frozen in a good cooler which will stay shut until we get to that phase of the trip. Weekenders we'd just take the fridge

Man yall are right, that dometic would look nice on the bed huh. And I am already going solar, and dual battery....it wouldn't take too much just to upgrade the solar to run a fridge I guess.

I have never set up a dual battery system for camping..so does the alternator charge both batteries? The controller I want from tjm is just released and there isn't a lot of info on it, I know there is a button to give your engine battery a connection with your camping battery so you can get an emergency start. Also, some fold out solar panels seem like a better idea than hard mounted panels, move em out from the shade to charge stuff.

This will be getting run off the micro camper. My plan is to get this and then I'll have all I need electrically so the camper will be converted to a dual battery setup combined with solar to recharge. I figured better to get what I'm going to use before I do the electrical and solar so I get the rt size solar setup to satisfy my demands

But what's nice with a fridge is you don't have to put all your beer/drinks in it all the time. Just throw a few in to have cold and ready and add more to get chilled as you go.

At least that's what I've been told, since I've yet to take the dive on a fridge, but I want one bad.

Ok I just read the cheap battery set up, I have few questions.

First, the 60w solar setup he mentions is $124 ... $80 for the panel, and $44 for the controller. For $147, you can get a 100w with a controller already with a 10 year warranty, that's totally worth it in my book.

Second, the way he has it set up is so when the key comes on, the batteries are connected. This means that if you have unknowingly ran down your vehicle battery, and try to start your vehicle, it will instanly blow your $14 80 amp circuit breakers and possibly smoke your connections. Not good, needs to be on a switch that is stand alone, other than receiving 12v when the keyed is switched on

    What yall think?

Man. So glad I posted on this thread. Now my plan is to make the camping/cage unit stand alone, so I can install or remove it with the forklift. The battery will be connected via a quick disconnect like the receiver hitch winch setups have. Just slide the unit on, strap it in, and after I start truck, switch it to both (for charging). It could even be loaded on a trailer or another flatbed for logistics purposes. Hell I could weld some lift points off the corners and just lift it with the helicopter. Let's get crazy.

OK, I've searched to no avail but I'm a dummy. I just purchased a 2102 TRD Sport with towing. I have a small camping trailer that has a solar recharged battery system for the refrige. Works fine but... What is needed so I can charge that battery while driving with the alternator? Is there a wiring schematic and or parts needed list? Solar works but not so much in bad weather. I "think" the 7 pin has power "if" hooked up. I will need an isolator to prevent discharge truck battery but not sure what, if anything, is required?

I did exactly this. The truck has towing package and yes the black wire is a hot wire that'll charge trailer battery. The camper had a 4 way flat so I converted to a 7 pin and added a wire to connect with the black connector and ran it along with the harness back toward the battery. When I got close to the battery I just branched it off and ran it strait to the positive terminal of the trailer's battery. Done, easy I just used 10ga wire and wrapped it in loom to protect from chaffing

Casper66 above is correct. I'll add that the wire to the trailer connector is pretty small, so don't expect a ton of charging current. And it's only hot when ignition is on, so won't discharge your battery overnight.

Well that's nice to know I keep leaving the lights unhooked until I'm ready to drive. The first truck (13 ac 2.7) I had when we got the camper I ran a 10 ha wire from the battery back to the trailer connector with an inline breaker so it was always hot. This truck has factory connector

THANKS, I was going to ask but maybe answered... so I will not need to add an Isolator to prevent draining starting battery? I have a fused Blue Sea panel in trailer. Think I should run through that and if so what size fuse?
