no mileage restriction at this time if your u-joints or the driveshaft is found to be the problem coverage will be there.

There were a couple of TSBs in 2014 regarding the drive shafts, however as TSBs they only applied to "in warranty" vehicles. This warranty enhancement (Toyota WEP-ZH2) extends the warranty for this issue. I bought my '09 in October of 2016 and as it was a Toyota CPO they had replaced the driveshafts (and carrier bearing) prior to sale--this is a BIG advantage of buying certified pre-owned at a Toyota dealer; all TSBs, recalls, etc. will have been applied.

Mine had new headlights, rear springs, driveshafts/carrier, blower motor, ECU updates and a new steering shaft U-joint--new tires too...

Letter indicates they may reimburse you if you already had the work done. QUESTION - is this the same thing??? thanks

I got the letter right before thanksgiving. My truck has had a annoying vibration between 35-45mph and maybe at other speeds too but it is the worst at those speeds. Is this the vibration the letter is talking about?

I have an 06, just wondering how can I make sure I'll be advised of this recall if I am affected? I am registered on Toyota Owners, but all I see is a seat belt recall. Do I just have to go in to the dealership for service?

So does anybody know why this warranty enhancement came into effect ?
Has anyone seen videos of the devastation involved when a driveshaft snaps-off during highway speeds ?

This is a cautionary note directly from Spicer
Warning: Inadequate lubrication can cause driveline failure, which can result in separation of the driveline from the vehicle. A separated driveline can result in serious injury or death.

I will make this quick and clear as day .

Spicer is the driveshaft contractor for our Toyota trucks
Spicer sells the driveshafts to Toyota and they are installed on our trucks during assembly at the Toyota factory
The factory spicer universal joints are only lubricated with an assembly lubricant when Spicer sold the driveshafts to Toyota

It is the responsibility of Toyota to lubricate the driveshaft after the driveshaft has been installed in the new vehicle .
The Spicer assembly lubricant is what it is " strictly " an assembly lubricant .
    http://spicerparts.com/resources/lube-torque-specs

When you picked up your brand new 2005 - 2011 Toyota Tacoma from the dealership , the grease zerks were supposed to be greased during the Pre delivery inspection that you paid to have performed and then re-greased at every oil change thereafter .
If for any reason , the technician skipped out on the universal joint lubrication during the Pre delivery inspection to save time , you drove off the dealership parking lot with basically " no " lubrication in your universal joints .

For the trucks sold with polypropleyne sealed universal joints ( No grease zerks ) ...you guys should be OK
For any owner of a 4X4 with 5 grease zerks on the driveshafts , I highly suggest you take advantage of this program .
The greaseable universal joints should be greased at every oil change and most importantly before the vehicle is sold to you .

If it makes you feel any better , Third generation Toyota trucks sold in 2016 didnt get any grease in the universal joints when the trucks were sold to new owners as well .
Unfortunately , Tacoma World only gets the word out to a few new owners in comparison to how many new trucks are sold.
With this said , I beleive the program will be extended through to 2017 trucks
If you want proof , read here

What do you think my chances of getting reimbursed for work done a year ago? I've had the ujoints and related parts fixed twice in 2 years, once by toyota and again by an independent. I've got the records for both, but the written description by the toyota dealer was "spider joint replaced", does that still qualify do you think?

Also, who do you think I should call to find out? Corporate?

Talked to a CS person, now I need to go back to the dealer to get a copy of my service record from 2015 when I first had work done and then mail all the "proof of...." papers.

Get ready for a long wait and having to follow up weekly. Took them 4 months to reimburse me for my leaf springs that ended up being recalled

Good to know, thanks for the heads up. It'll be worth the wait if I do get the money back, it was close to $2000 between the 2 different times I got work done.

You nailed that. However what do you suggest that owners of lifted trucks do to get this done under the enhanced warranty? I fully expect Toyota to tell them SOL, blame the lift and refuse the warranty

They were really dicks about it. Just sat on it for weeks only to tell me WHEN I CALLED that they were missing something. Which they didn't. They just made up bullshit hoops for me to jump through in hopes I would give up. Don't give up!
I eventually threatened to sue them in small claims court. I guess the prospect of having to pay for legal made my check arrive about a week later lol

If there is written proof the driveshaft angles were corrected when the lift was installed , you may have a chance .
On another note , 90 percent of Tacomas have a vibration of some sort or another . Many owners will mis-diagnose their vibration thinking they should qualify for the enhancement .
This thread may assist with mis-diagnosis https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/universal-vibration-diagnostics-for-all-tacomas-write-up.520607/
. The bean counters over at Toyota are smart .I think this warranty enhancement is going to create a lot of traffic as well as revenue for Dealerships .
There is only " ONE " way to properly diagnose universal joints and this is with the driveshaft removed from the truck
Those of us who lubricate our flush style universal joints with grease zerks on a regular basis and have re-phased the driveline angles obviously will not have as many issues as the guy who doesnt follow the lubrication requirement .
