Yeah decided to just blow out the rest of the first floor and never retire

 

Haven't been skiing in a few years since our daughter was born. Wife's Uncle has a sweet condo at the base of the Chondola at Sunday River( literally right above the ski school) there and we just nabbed it for a weekend in January. Pretty pumped. Going to put my daughter in learn to ski for the day. Not sure if I want to take my tele skis or just regular alpine ones. Probably need to get out somewhere local to get the cobwebs off of the tell set if I want to ride those for the weekend.

 

God damn though, lift tickets are ridiculous.

 

Absurd. I used to be able to buy what they called an 'All East' pass when I was in school for $300 for the season. Now that's basically 4 days on the slopes.

 

I used to get that too. It was an awesome bargain. My wife used to be able to discounted lift tickets through her company but I don't think they can anymore. Without having a free place to stay/ cook etc you have to be a damn millionaire to go skiing for a weekend.

 

I dont ski nearly as much because of this.

Heavenly out in Tahoe was up to $150 a day if I remember correctly

looking forward to getting back up to Cannon and Jay Peak now that I am back east. Both of those are atleast a bit more reasonable.

 

I used to ski everywhere in NE for free since I managed a shop. Even out west. I got 10 days worth of Jackson Hole skiing for free, it was incredible. Some places were better than others, for instance Okemo had zero blackout days, but Killington you couldn't get comp tickets on weekends or holidays. One year, maybe 1996 or something, I logged 130 days skiing which is unheard of on the East Coast. My shop was an hour to Mt. Snow if I drove my VW Golf like the wind, so I would take the 12pm-8pm shift and be at the mountain when it opened. Leave by 10:30 and be at work for noon. I also never paid for gear- I got a pair of top of the line ski boots for free every few years and then would just take whatever was the new hotness at the time from the demo rack. So now I have a hard time paying for skiing because it used to be basically free for me.

 

If you only go a hand full of times and can preplan check out liftopia.com; they sell tickets cheaper than normal and the earlier you buy the better the price.

 

Sugarloaf for March would be $76, instead of the regular price of $95. Not bad, but still damned expensive.
