Aren't the recovery points and/or the winch locations potentially buried in whatever you're trying to pull yourself out of being mounted on the lower panel like that?

They could be I suppose. That's another reason for a shovel. It's pretty common to have pad eyes on the bumper - in line with the frame.

My questions are pointed, I'm designing a competing product that will take those concerns into account.

I don't think you want the recovery points to high above the frame. The distance above would act like a lever. But no doubt that recovery points buried in mud or below water are challenging.

Holy shit what a journey trying to install this winch @taczilla

    1. Get it just fine, after some small talk with @tacoma16 decide to upgrade from the supplied wire to a 1/0
    2. waited for wire, but no crimpers.
    3. get crimped but not enough wire to finish it
    4. thought free spool was fucked up, turns out I was tightening the set screw farther than what would have been allowable with the synthetic rope
    5. wire gets horribly delayed (UPS sucks, paid way more than i should have) cut more wire
    6. crimp again second set of wires
    7. go to install winch, crimped end rips off (improper spooling on my part)
    8. fix crimped end with a hammer and a flat head screw driver and finally fucking done. After about 3 months of shenanigans

I’m a third gen driver now but my email was not loading right a few minutes ago. One of the emails it was showing as last received was 10-3-11. It was the pictures of my first trip up Mount Washington after I lifted my 08. I do miss it.

Just a tad! I'm happy with it. I went off your recommendation for the tires.

    yep..

Good looking truck. What was your spring setup in the rear?

Love that mountain/area. Have yet to drive up, only hiked so far. Ill probably make a trip in the late spring when it opens. Itll be cool to make some 2 meter HAM radio contacts up there. The range must be amazing.

I had a toytec 3 inch with 265/75/16 Goodyear wrangler duratracs. Amazing tires. Will be getting some soon for my gen3. The lift worked but I think I will go with something else on the new truck. Leaning towards Icon coilovers in the front with Icon rear shocks and then go with a Dakar leaf pack and then do wheel spacers with Duratracs in 285/75/16s. When I do it I’ll probably do upper control arms to so I can get the alignment right.

It is an awesome ride up. I’ve done it quite a few times. It is a blast. I have not had a chance to do it in the new truck. Can’t wait till I get the opportunity.

I like what you did with the stock wheels. Did you paint it yourself? What paint was used?
