Just washed and waxed my Tacoma today and low and behild there is already a ding and paint chipped on the passenger side door. It is up near the handle so I don't think it was another door, likely a rock that flew up and hit it.

It is at 302 miles and already has a scar.

I'm calling the dealership tomorrow and getting the name/# of the paintless dent remover guy that they use and then hope to get a paint pen to hide the chipped paint. Hopefully this will minimize the eye sore.

I know its a truck and it should have some character, but man I was hoping for it to look "mint" for a little longer than 302 miles, haha.

Well the paint does SUCK tits on our trucks. Its probably the worst I've ever encountered. My whole front bumper is just ruined from interstate trips with bugs. :(

    None yet! It's new!
I was almost glad when mine got its first ding. It meant I didn't have to be quite so anal about keeping it looking good all the time. That's sort of what I miss about having the first gen truck around... I didn't worry about it at all, and it made life so much simpler....

Mine just cleared 9k miles and it has some healthy scratches. Sucks, I haven't even taken it offroad.

To further hijack (for a good cause) - are those rub on paint based scratch removers any good? Can someone recommend one?

I have several chips of paint on the door corners- that Flaked off!!!

I have some good ol' tree pinstriping, rock chips on the hood, splattered bug marks from the interstate, a HUGE backwards capital "L" on my rear bumper( don't know how it got there).

But Given this is a 2006 truck with 89K miles on it. More than half are interstate miles.

I hope Toyota does something about their paint procedures. It's definitely not Toyota quality.

Their paint needs to be like the new Ford Taurus paint.......Resistant to rock chips- Check it out at Ford.com Its a pretty interesting video

Thats why I don't wash my truck too often. I don't want to see all the boo-boo's.

I am not being a smart ass man...I feel the same way you do...keep it show room for as long as you can. But if it bothers you that bad you can always repaint the area that is messed up after you get the dent removed. I found these guys while searching for ideas on what to do with my engine cover after seeing some threads on here. They have full blown paint or just the little markers if that suits you better.

    http://www.automotivetouchup.com/

Oh if your truck is a 2010 don't select that year as there are still not that many options. With my 2010 I selected 2009 and all the colors were there.

Good Luck and sorry to here about your dent a paint chip.

My taco is only 3 weeks old, brand new. Just washed her and found a chip on the hood, small, but it bugs the shit out of me. Thats how I found this thread, I was looking for info on paint chips. Ugh.

Yeah I guess I failed to mention, my vehicle actually already has 3 chips, one on the hood and two on the passenger side door, haha. The only one that concerns me is the one with the dent attached to it - it just makes it glaring when viewed with any sort of light reflecting off of it. If I can get get dent removed I'm sure touch-up paint via a paint-pen will minimize the eye sore.

Word of advice if you use a paint pen though, just dab it on the spot that is missing paint. If you try to "blend" it in with the surrounding existing paint you will regret it (at least that was my experience).

I feel ya Chase... When mine was much newer, I kept inventory on every little scratch & ding. Each time I found something new, it would stay on my mind for awhile and irritate me. But, I've found that going for that "mint condition" look, is unrealistic unless you're going to park it in a garage and not drive it. Don't worry, after a few years your appreciation for the durability of the truck will eventually out-weigh the minor little blemishes. :)

I'd be getting some touch up paint asap, before you have to worry about rust.
