    Remember you have to have your own Private Keys to get the forks. So no storing crypto in GDAX/Coinbase.

    Since btc is open source, you can upgrade/change the code and split it into another currency. You get a 1:1 ratio of it. For example, if you have 4 bitcoins and it does a fork for super bitcoin, you get 4 super bitcoins as well. The price is entirely different because it’s a different currency.

    Essentially though, they’re an artificial way of raising the market cap.

    You may want to reconsider. Bitcoin Cash was a btc fork in August and look at how much money it is now. It’s free money.

    Just send your crypto to an exchange that openly says that they’ll support the fork. You don’t have to pay anything besides the fee of transferring the btc itself.
