Right after you turn it on? If you start revving up and driving around it sounds like it has a v8 for about 15 seconds but it then goes away and becomes very quiet.

    Just wondering.

That fan running probably takes 40hp and 4mpg. Totally worth it in my opinion :burnrubber:

Just don't make the mistake of putting a Magnaflow exhaust on it if you like it louder. Buying that exhaust was the dumbest thing I ever did.

I did consider an exhaust but most sounded too "ricey" and then there is the droning. Rather have this subtle fan clutch sound lol

    Really??

The Magnaflow is quieter than stock?

I do not think the stock is too bad. I would prefer it to be a bit throatier, but I like the fact that is fades out at highway speeds.

I once had a '76 Malibu with cherry bomb glasspacks 8" as I recall. Damn thing roared at any rmp. I am sure the Holley 750 4 barrel double pumper, youth, and lead foot probably did not help either. :D

I had to do some serious sound system upgrades just to hear my heavy metal playing. :headbang:

No, I'm saying that the Magnaflow was too loud, and it sounded really ricey.

Plus it was built like crap. When I went to remove it, it was rusted so bad that I couldn't sell it (this was in less than a year).

Wow, noted. If/when I change exhaust I will look elsewhere.

    Thanks

I had cherry bombs on my 66 Fairlane 390 GTA. Didn't keep them on there long. You couldn't stand the noise.

3/4 inch foil covered foam engine compartment insulation made a substantial difference in running noise and took the loud start-up noise down a few dB’s. I put it on the inside of vehicle firewall up under the dashboard also.
I see 4Runners and the Hi Lux come with under-hood insulation so I researched purchasing stock part for the Tacoma but I think the hood bracing is different, and this was a lot cheaper anyway.
I don’t like the look much and I know it isn’t uniform or sleek but I like a quiet truck and I’m the only one seeing it or doing maintenance under the hood.
It may not be Lexus quiet but it’s way better than stock! Also way more quiet than my 66 Mustang back in the 70’s!

I spent some time squeezing 1/4 inch insulation up high behind brittle stock firewall insulation in the engine compartment. Then did ‘Boom Mat’ and 1/4 inch insulation underneath carpet and rear seat tray and just ‘Boom Mat’ on back cab wall and back of plastic cover behind back seat.

07F44E62-6B3F-476A-86DB-0103311AB515.jpg I removed center console to paint the trim and stuck some insulation in there too.
The narrow 1/4 inch thick silver piece at the bottom/back of the hood is cut out of the heat insulation from a 2016 F150 underbody airflow shield.
