Rear disc brake swap

Alright dude you should probably chill a little. Just because somebody doesnt chose to buy the same part as you doesnt make them cheap or broke. I plan on doing a disc swap, so Im not really sure what you are getting ALL different kinds of bent out of shape about in the first place.

For the record, plenty of performance offroad vehicles have drum brakes because discs are a lot more breakable than drums are, especially when there might be loose gravel to drive over that might fling rocks into the discs.

 

Drum brakes have two advantages over disc brakes. They are cheaper to make, and the consumables last longer. They will heat up and fade more quickly, they apply less brake torque, they are a pain to work on. All dezert race trucks, trophy trucks, Ultra4 etc, all run disc brakes on all 4 corners, they are not any less durable under any condition.

That being said, for my truck I am not going to go through the hassle or expense of swapping to disc brakes, It stops fine and I don't tow anything, nor have I added any considerable weight over stock. To each their own.

While we are talking DRUM brakes - My first set of rear pads lasted 110K miles. Without needing them to be done, decided to get them done for piece of mind. They squeaked after 500 miles of new replacement and the Dealer fixed the squeak 4 times, claiming dust issues. I call BS! They claimed to have resurfaced a few times, then claimed they replaced everything.

Any idea what caused this?

Any suggestions on the best replacement pads i can get in the future for my 2015?

AND, why don't some people take the Disc Brakes from a 2010+ 4Runner and use them on our 6cy Tacoma's?

 

Seems like a bunch of BS, most tractor trailers have drum brakes that I see parked at work

my 9000 lb full size truck has drums and can tow a 11k load

 

Imagine if they all had disk breaks though....

 

All my experience with brakes has been on disc systems. I am mechanically inclined and do 90% of the work on my vehicle myself. However, I am not confident working on drum brakes even with the shop manual in hand. Can I check drum brakes without taking the drum off?
