Mu university just called me asking for money. My response was clear - "y'all got a shitload of money from me when I was a student. You didn't spend all of it already did you? YOU'RE NOT GETTING ANY MORE!"

Used to have a co-worker that had a car like that. It's mind boggling. She was one of those that made sure everybody saw her eating a salad for lunch while her ride had every fast food shit wrapper known in it. Those kind of vehicles can have some mystery life forms growing in them.

When I worked for the City/ County, Some of the employees with dedicated vehicles would look like this. I was alway's taking pictures and writing abuse reports for stuff like this. I had a couple of vehicles with less than 10,000 miles on them that looked this way.

Start living in squalor. It’s the only way to survive the impending doom.

Unfortunately, there are far too many who are perfectly content to live in squalor and have Zero desire to try and improve their situation.

Improving would require far too much work.

Maybe I'm just an sucker, but my university didn't have to call me. In my senior year I was granted large scholarship with "private" dollars. The key word being private dollars and my colleges dept picked me one of two people to get it. I was honored and got to meet the donor's widow at a luncheon. If it was not for her husband's endowing this scholarship on his passing there would have been nothing to give. I returned the favor this year, three and times times over. (Several thousand dollars) I didn't do it because someone called me. I did it because it was the right thing to do. It would have been selfish not to giveback. I enjoyed the time I spent in college.

I loved college in ‘87. Did the frat thing, partied, still got good grades - simply didn’t finish (they don’t let you become a junior if you don’t declare a major). When I went back for the degree I got with these guys I worked full time and fit in classes when and where I could. Got zero financial assistance from them - I “made too much money” even though we were just getting by. Nothing like teaching yourself statistical analysis from the Middle East when your prof is 11 time zones away. Did my last two years all online, and TW is a far better experience than online courses.

That college experience was freaking WORK, so unless I decide to go back for a masters they ain’t getting another dime from me.

I am not going to give a full reseume here, we'll just say I earned my GI Bill.

I went to a university with kids that were in diapers the first time I was dodging enemy fire. Many of them partied and lived high on the hog off their parents and/or loans... all while bitching about how hard their lives are.

I graduated a semester early as a member of a national honors society. When the university/college I graduated from called trying to get money, I simply said, "I earned my degree through blood, sweat, and tears. You'll never see a dime from me, remove me from your calling and mailing list." Haven't heard from them since.

My wife was awarded grants and such through the university she attended. She makes annual contributions to students in the math department every year... and I am okay with this.

huh, I didnt know that...I thought those people were just considered lazy not ocd.

not always...when we lived in MD there was a guy that lived in his camry or whatever it was...car was loaded to the gills with garbage. He got kicked out of his sisters house because he wouldnt bathe. One day there was a line of cars backed up going to the local KFC and I was trying to figure out what happened and the guy was in a wheel chair underneath a tree by KFC and looked like he was dead. But nope he was just being a sloth and sleeping under a tree in the middle of the day.

Telling kids that my tuition was free - Texas allowed vets to go to state schools free - and I had the GI Bill sending me loot every month had them raging on how screwed up the system was. Ask all the ones that were fuming about who paid their tuition and the anwer was the same. “Mom & Dad” paid for everything, and these little runts had everything.

Back then Texas still had funny money food stamps. My roommate and I used to buy them from people at 2 to 1 rates and then go buy the absolute cheapest food we could buy. We got scolded by a cashier for it once because she said that people that are supposed to have food stamps only buy expensive brand name stuff and we are shopping in the black and white generic isle.
