What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Wow.. first day of driving and it's like my truck is on Viagra! ... night and day.

 

Got rid of my old 14" antenna the thing would whistle like crazy at highway speeds and gets worse when it's cold outside. Replaced it with a $11.25 Harley Davidson knock off antenna, which is a little bit longer at 19" but has the spiral deflection to reduce wind noise plus it's flexible at the base in which it won't break off when off-roading or comes in contact with tree limbs.
PLEASE NOTE: that this wasn't quite a plug-n-play though!
They provided like 7 or 8 different stud types, so one end is the same size and type for threads that screw into the antenna itself while the other end of the stud has a different size with either fine or coarse threads depending on the base of your antenna mount. The only issue was that the transition from the antenna to the part of the stud that screws into the base of the truck wasn't quite long enough and the transition was too wide to fit down into the base on the truck so I took a file and filed it down to get it to fit, but took like 5 minutes to file the stud down all the way around the transition point to get it to fit. But for 11 bucks I'm pretty happy with the fit and finish of it.

Just spent the last hour putting the actuator on, and running the wire under the truck and along the frame, up to the engine compartment (like the You Tube videos I found). Can't complete it today cause I have to go get the oldest from daycare, but the "hard" part (I think) is done.

Running the wire under the truck is no joke... especially when you don't have it on a lift, has FF on it already, and your garage floor is cold and a bit wet (from driving in the rain earlier). But I think I did a half way decent job of tucking it along the frame, zip tying it every few feet, and making sure it's not hanging anywhere.

Tomorrow I'm going to attempt the last part, which is run it through the grommet, and attempting to tap into the wires I need to make it lock and unlock with the FOB.

You have a creeper right? Never really had to much of an issue running wire under the truck

A long piece of cardboard also works pretty good.

 

I used an old skateboard for a while, let's just say the clearance on my creeper is way better and I no longer discover what things are made of with my skull under there

 

Got everything I need for this now! Decided to get some dedicated wire for this project for my waterproof relay box I'm building since I'm redoing all of the shit I've done. Not pictured are the parts for the next project: some led lights and a switch pin to install underhood lights, 10 eagleye LED bolts to install in the wheel wells and possibly replace the aux reverse lights I have in place now.

Not yet, but left it a bit lose just in case. But I might re-do the wire thing tomorrow because of a thread someone sent me...

 

I'd recommend always looming wire running under the truck. It'll help prevent a gremlin from popping up a couple years down the road and draining your battery.

 

Oil change (first time getting to use the new Fumoto), AC knob mod (after a month coming from china), hauled a 15' xmas tree, and swapped the license plate lights for LEDs (right side incandescent went out). Waiting on Ultragauge MX to arrive- USPS is shitting the bed.

 

Did the fog light anytime mod this evening

 

so they don't cut off when your high beams are on? That could get me a ticket good idea though

 

If I have to run any wires under the truck, I like to use split loom on the wires then run that through a section of PVC conduit secured to the frame for extra protection.
