What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

And of course I have a 2000.... I really wish I could find an easy way to monitor the temp.

 

California is such a weird state when it comes down to automotive regulations. Technically, it's cheaper to drive a converted PreRunner 4x4 because it came from the factory and is registered as a 2WD truck. I don't have to pay for 4WD insurance.

I drove with a cheap camper shell I got from a parts truck for a couple days... hated it. Visibility was horrible and my buddies did this to it:

 

Does it matter if I get the wired or wireless? I’m leaning toward the wired and mount it in the truck

 

Just install a gauge, I gotta do one for my Cruiser soon. Probably more accurate than the stock one too.

Visibility is reduced a lot, I didn't mind mine but I think it defeats the purpose of a truck often for me. My rack and tent make my back window useless though so I guess I can't escape that, just use my mirrors (minus the center).

So bout them horns....

 

Meant transmission temps, sorry. I don't think the 95-00 have a sensor in the trans to monitor it, so I would have to add one, which seems like it could be a lot of work.

 

Oh and for the horns, I'm doing a first come first serve GB. I never anticipated the amount of interest that I've gotten for those things, this time I'm getting rid of the pre-order and just am selling what stock I could find since those Caddy horns are increasingly rare. I think I have 78? horns out of the last horn scouting so that should make a good 19 sets.

 

I meant that too, you have a sensor but it just feeds the little AT temp light, the ECU actually looks at coolant temp to determine shifts on cold starts oddly enough.

 

Ohhh ok. So would it be possible to tie into the wiring for the existing sensor and mount an aftermarket trans temp gauge somewhere?

 

Nah you'd still have to put in a sensor for the gauge you got, but you'd just have to either put it in an empty plug near the stock sensor (if there is one) or put it in the hot line for the transmission cooler.

 

I didn't even think about the cooler lines... seems like that might be the easiest way to do it.

 

Those actually look pretty sweet. But then I'd be tempted to add a turbo since the boost gauge is right there haha

Id sell my ultra guage from my 01. Has the extra cable to keep one of the dashlights from coming on to. Nothing wrong with it, just don't use it

 

Damn, I buy a $30 dollar pass for each semester. That blows.

 

Anyone know the size of the stock Ubolts? I wanna swap them once I get my Expo leafs, IF AP ever gets them to me.
