    It’s still possible.

It still isn’t cost effective for power returns.

Today, I met a guy from Jersey in Doylestown. He had a base 2005 AC 5-lug with a 5-speed stick. He was the original owner, and he had to special order his truck because he wanted a base access cab for use on his farm. Basically, all he wanted was air-conditioning. He couldn't find an access cab with rollup windows, so he ordered it. 127K miles and one frame replacement later, the truck is still going strong (though the owner told me the A/C needs a recharge).

So, did if you bought your truck new, did you just settle for whatever was on the lot?

I bought mine off of the lot. My truck had exactly the options I wanted though.

Bought mine off the lot. I wanted a SR5 4x4 with a 4-cyl and they had one on the lot with an automatic trans. They also had a SR5 V6 with a 6-speed manual which was tempting but I decided the 4-cyl/auto would be a better choice over the long run. Maybe if I was 10 years younger ...

I had to order mine. They didn't have any trd sports, and certainly not manual

I had to order mine in march of 2015 and it took about 8-10 weeks. I wanted an SR with tan interior, MT, and a few other specific options. When the dealer realized that I wasn't interested in close enough he ordered the truck for me. I didn't need a new vehicle at the time but I wanted a Tacoma for my next truck and I wasn't thrilled about the 3.5 in the 2016s so I went ahead with the 2015.

I bought mine off the lot. I would be driving a 6MT had I gone the special order route. But I was in a pinch and could not wait 8+ weeks for the truck to arrive.

I bought my '15 in January of 2016, it was the last 2015 AC they had and that is what I wanted TRD AC with the rear locker. So we took it.

I ordered mine in 2007 because I’m picky. Since I was buying new, I didn’t want a truck that had been test driven and I wanted it built for me with my specific options. :taco: Turned out perfect!

It usually depends on what kind of a deal you can get...I found a great deal on a truck on the lot. Special order/custom trucks have less price flexibility

Ordered mine. I wasn't going to get any sort of discount beyond the Costco pricing I was already getting by purchasing off the lot so I might as well get exactly what I want. Really for mine not a very interesting configuration but primarily I just wanted a "clean" truck without a bunch of expensive and pointless options added on. When I was purchasing most everything on the lot had options I really didn't want to pay for so it was actually cheaper for me to special order.

    I bought off the lot...

But I searched for a dealer who had EXACTLY what truck I wanted. Not sure what you mean about settling.
