Ha...at first I was wondering if it was hay. I thought you were onto a dog training technique.

I definitely see the chow. When I scrolled down and saw that first picture I immediately saw our dear, sweet Bruno.

Such an amazing dog. Chows are mean, stubborn dogs, but mixing something in makes the best dogs ever. He’s no longer with us, but we loved the mashup so much, that we adopted another chow mix. Here’s the two of them together.

Yeah definantly chow. She's a great watch dog. She barks at everything near our property.

BTW Checotah has a swelling in her neck that seems to be fluid filled. We had it examined and tested a few months ago. It's not cancer or a tumor. It didn't respond to antibiotics either. Would you happen to know what this could be? I worry because it's grown a little larger over the last couple of days.

@InfernoTonka, I'm not sure. Older dogs can be lumpy though. Could just be a fluid pocket or a cyst. Could be something in there like a quill or a staple from a previous procedure. Was he chipped by the shelter? Might need a drain and antibiotics to clear whatever it is up. I'd seek a second opinion. I'd want to be damn sure that is wasn't cancer.

He was a prince among dogs. He looked intimidating with his strong jaw and muscular body, but he was the kindest dog. My girlfriend had him before she had me, and of course a condition of us being able to continue to see each other was whether or not her Bruno liked me. So the night I went to meet him, I stood in the kitchen as she made dinner, and he stood pressed against my leg enjoying a scratch, and perhaps I thought, trying to keep me away from his woman. Thought sitting on the floor might help put him at ease. Well, my butt had no sooner hit the tile, he was curled up between my legs in what we still refer to as a Bruno ball, legs across my calf, head on my knee, gazing up at her as if to ask “can we keep him?” I couldn’t have a dog of my own at the time...or to this day really if it wasn’t for her...because of my job. This new dynamic suited my life just fine. He’s still very much missed, and hardly a day goes by without one of his mentioning his name, or laughing at a memory about him. Like how when he was excited, his tail would twirl like a helicopter rotor. Or how we think he truly believed that the dog park belonged to him, and he would go from dog to dog, and person to person as if to welcome them all to his park. We’d get so far ahead of him, but he was never concerned. He’d just carry on in his role as ambassador, greeting one and all. He was a great dog a gentleman’s dog her dad says.

I’m glad you and your wife found your beautiful girl. If she had shown up in rescue here, I’m positive we’d be back up to a four dog household. And it’s nice to see that you and so many others in this thread are willing to give older dogs a loving home.

There is something about active dogs and cold weather.

Boomer loves cool/cold weather. I take him out to play ball every morning and evening.

This week with the cold fronts dipping into FL, mornings in the upper 30's to mid 40's, he has been having a blast. He runs like he is chasing a rabbit or squirrel; full throttle, sharp turns, and quick double backs all over the place. He even occasionally forgets he started out chasing a ball and comes back to me panting, prancing, and waiting for me to throw the one he forgot to bring back.

I would post a vid but it is a bit tough to keep up with his fast moves. Well.. he is also damned near all black, at 5 or 6 am it is dark, so the vid would just his lite tag zipping around.:rofl: It is really no better when I get home right at dusk.

    Love the splooting* action.

*Splooting is when a dog lays on it's belly with its back legs out.

    Yeah.
Could just be a lipoma, they are harmless growths of fatty tissue. But yes, have it checked. They can grow over time and can be removed but are generally left alone.
