Resized_20171213_121056.jpg Fellow Tacoma Owners. I am asking for your opinion. Earlier today my wife was driving my truck. While parked, an elderly couple backed their vehicle into the rear bumper of my truck. They stopped and shared their info. The dent is minimal in my opinion. The question is:
    a. Do I contact his insurance for repair/replace it (maybe upgrade to a new off road bumper) or
    b. Live with it.

I don't want to affect those people. I've been through similar scenarios where I hit a vehicle and the owner was cool and brushed off minor dents/scratches.

That's a tough one! I'm OCD about my truck so I'd have to have some sort of fix but it's a nice thought to not put an burden on the elderly couple. Buttt.... A nice new free high clearance bumper?!

x2. They may be on a fixed income and if their insurance goes up it may put a crunch. But if they were driving a Mercedes, file a claim, take the money, and do some mods.

This. If not obviously rich old hags I'd let it go. It's a truck and you can barely see it! What goes around...

Fixed income or not I'm an "asshole" I'd just file the claim. People are like cattle sometimes being nice don't work.

Don't let the age of their vehicle confuse you into thinking they're broke.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
And just remember -- some old farts (like me) like new cars and trucks, and what they are driving has no bearing on their financial worth. I have a neighbor (very well off)(my age) I have known for 40+ years, and he drives old stuff (BTW his tranny went out just this week on his older dodge van).
See what I mean? A nice move however would be to ask them how they think you should/could handle it. He may pay you cask and then you could leave the Ins. Companies out of the picture altogether!

Elderly or 25 years old does not matter.
Get it fixed. That is what insurance is for.
Don't try to take more than you have coming but get it fixed at a shop you want.

The problem is it sets a precedent for someone that did the damage to be an asshole the next time and think it's no big deal. I had a dealing in this bullshit a few years ago because someone thought the damage they did to my car was no big deal and proceeded to drive off. It wasn't till a deputy brought them back to the scene that they coughed up their insurance info.

Your right in a lot of ways. But I think it's pretty simple and were overthinking this a bit.
If someone hits my rig I expect them to pay to get it fixed.
I'm not going to have a sudden neck problem when there isn't one. Not going to have them fix something they did not do. But I expect them to fix what they did to my rig. Period!
If I were to ever hit another vehicle I would expect the same.

get under the truck and try to push it from the inside. OR get the bumper wet and try a toilet plunger sounds crazy i've seen it work successfully. IF you turn it in you will have the pay the deductible which maybe more than you buying a bumper. ALSO don't forget, turning a claim in can affect your INSURANCE PREMIUM and grounds for your CO to jack the price of insurance. ALSO if you have a claim on your ins record other insurance companies may not accept you because of this (some go back 3 years some 5)..SO they jack your premium and have you by the balls because now you can't switch companies.. I work in the insurance industry you can PM me if you have any other questions
