What are the rough weights of these? I'm wondering if it's worth it to go aluminum vs steel

We're waiting for @mesojdm to get one cut in steel and measure the difference.

Edit: I would normally select aluminum for an application such as this but the ability to use magnets has me thinking steel.

I thought it was a run of 48 each, but I may have read it wrong. Don’t feel like digging back into the thread to look though.

I was wrong. Looks like it’s 24 each. Myself & @Subway4X4 are just below the cut off right now.

Got you guys all added plus the PMs. Note some of you on the STEEL list are below the 1st batch line of 24. I'll talk to @mesojdm to see if he's willing to increase the first batch of STEEL to match the demand.

    Hi All,

I communicated with @mesojdm and here is an update:

    1. The first run will be limited to 24 of each material type, i.e. 24 aluminum and 24 steel. He will likely do a second run if there is enough demand to do so. Those of you on the STEEL list that are currently below the line will be first on the list for the 2nd run. That said, you still likely have a shot at the first run as its almost certain some folks will bail out when it comes time for payment.
    2. mesojdm has already given the green light to his laser cutter to start the first run and he's put his own money forward to cover the capital, so no payments need to be made at this point yet. Time line is looking like mid-January-ish (given the holidays) to get these to the point of where they will be ready to ship.
    3. mesojdm and I are looking into shipping costs and this will need to be established before payment is asked for.
    4. Payment will likely be required about a week before the items are to be shipped.
    5. The aluminum list is only at 14, so if interested in aluminum there is still an opportunity to get in on the first run.

Thanks everyone and I'll update as things develop.

    Jason

Weapons? I'm planning on putting baby wipes, diapers, towels, a blanket, and other crap up there. I'll probably have a bunch of miscellaneous tools and radio gear in pouches. It's way better than having it all under the seat where I'd have to remove the carriers for the kiddos to access.

You could strap a rifle up there with some webbing, but it seems like a bad place for a gun. If it was strapped loosely enough to be accessible if needed, it would go flying in an accident. I have no idea how you'd use a rifle in self defense in that small of space anyways. I keep my ccw on me or in the door if it gets uncomfortable. I do like the magnet mounts some people use next to the shifter though, I'm considering one of those. Think about it this way, if you're ever in a situation where you need a rifle, just mash the skinny pedal and get out of there... A pistol's more than enough if someone's trying to carjack you or something.

@perkj - I’ll take two steel. This, shipped with @stairgod ’s aluminum should bring shipping cost down.
    Thanks.

No clue on shipping. I made some slight revisions for the final production. The end tabs were a little long and could be shortened a little. Prevent head bumps while entering/exiting.
