What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I installed my DIY extruded alluminum roof rack. Now, I just need to work on my crossbar spacing and wire management.

Not sure how much difference there is either.

Seems like the common measurement is 21.5", so that's close enough for me. Just measured, and I'm sitting at 25.5" right now with my (broken) bastard pack. So need to get that amount, or slightly more, out of the new pack.

 

FWIW

Center of hubs to bottom of fender flares. 182,000 miles on stock suspension.

Before:

Empty bed, with the topper on.

Driver Front: 20 7/8"
Driver Rear: 20 1/4"
Passenger Front: 20 3/4"
Passenger Rear: 20 1/4"

After 1000 miles on the new suspension. Empty bed, with the topper on.

Driver Front: 22 3/4"
Driver Rear: 24"
Passenger Front: 22 7/8"
Passenger Rear: 24"

 

As far as I know, this is completely normal. Mine does it almost every morning. It shifts into 2nd fine, then revs up to about 2500 rpm in 2nd and holds it there for several seconds, sometimes longer and then drops into 3rd.

Huh no shit... what's the reason why it does that?

 

My bet would be to prevent excess wear on the transmission while it's cold? Not entirely sure though.

 

Just to add one last set of data to what you've got. Here were my "before" measurements on stock suspension with ~50K miles. I had air shocks for most heavy loads since the truck was new, so the springs were old, but in relatively good shape.

 

Warms the engine faster, it's for emissions. Cruiser will hold 3rd for an eternity until it's warmed up

 

Weird. Still gotta figure out what's causing that damn P0171 code.

 

I've noticed my taco will hold 2nd until the water temp reaches about 130°F

 

Man I wish you good luck. I never did figure out what the cause of mine was before my 99 was totalled. I tried damn near everything short of changing the fuel pump to make it go away

 

I'm about to bring it to the stealership, I give up.

 

What light are you guys mounting on your ditch brackets? I feel like the side shooters would be awesome in the winter looking for lion track but at the same time they seem like the “Bro” lights.

Along similar lines, I've noticed mine will hold 2nd until the trans fluid temps reach 88-90*F.

I also just noticed you are able to get the true 'degree' symbol to display in your post. Mind sharing how you are able to do that?

 

If your on a phone hold down the zero...mac comp is like alt zero or comand alt, cant remember...push buttons ask questions later is my motto

Windows

• Option 1: Hold down the ALT key and then enter the number 248 or 0176 on your numeric keypad
• Option 2: In Microsoft Office programs such as Microsoft Word, you can use the Insert > Symbol feature to add the symbol

Mac

Not on the phone or a mac and option 1 did not work on my Windows laptop but its kinda messed up ever since we had to swap out the keyboard. But...°°° Dan, I'll just holler at you when ever I need one of these.

I just went 5 spd swap and completely prevented any future wear on my auto
