stealership 1.....me 0....

After replacing my O2 sensor with a oem replacement(bosch) due to a P0141 code which cleared after replacement a few days later i get a P0420 code....took it to toyota to get it looked at and the 1st thing the SM says is its because i replaced the O2 sensor with a non toyota part. I called BS and said it may not have said toyota on the box but it was a direct replacement part and not a universal....SM says if it was a toyota part they would rule it out as a possible cause....BS. they hooked it up and said all the numbers looked good so it is a intermittent problems and they shrugged thier shoulders....told me i needed a "toyota" O2 sensor. I really liked paying $88 for nothing but shrugged shoulders Talked to the tech privately for about 10 minutes....he said he has seen this lots of times and said i should go get another O2 sensor and try replacing it again. I have never gotten the 420 code til i replaced the bad sensor that was giving me the 141 code in the 1st place....so...do u guys think i should go get another O2 sensor, perhaps a denso this time , and try again??? I got the 420 code after the truck was fully warmed up and doing 45mph going to work.....Thanks

 

hate to say it.......but these trucks dont like aftermarket type sensors. but...i wouldnt buy it at the stealership. get it at rockauto.com.....they are a vendor here now.

 

or try urdusa.com i bought one from them and no problems at all

 

If you get another one, don't get a Bosch. Get the same brand as the OEM one.

as funny as it sounds check out Amazon. Thats were I got my Denso O2 sensor.

 

the FIRST thing I would do is go down to the local auto parts store and buy a good code reader.. the one that not only tells you the code but what the code means.. Stop wasting hard earned dollars at the dealership.

And as much as I hate to admit it, my philosophy is to always use Toyota parts.. They last pretty much forever and they fit and work the first time. You KNOW they work and they got you this far in the first place... Sooooo...

 

Thanks 3.4 ....i would be more than happy to use toyota parts if they were not so friggin expensive!!! We all know they use denso sensors so when i can got to rock auto and get the rear sensor for $85 and toyota charges $195 for the same sensor made by the same company only it comes in a toyota box i call BS...Some parts they are competitive on but most are outrageous....$900 for a cat...give me a break!!! i will update when my new front & rear sensors are installed....The SM at the dealer tried to convince me toyota made the sensors....LOL!!! I live in Big 3 country so i know way better than that...Thanks for all the input you guys.....appreciate it!!!

 

You don't even need to buy a code reader or any specialty tools! I needed a code reader and a coolin system pressure checker so I went to autozone, gave them the full cost of the tools (which was spendy) and they gave me back the money when I returned the tools!

 

Ya, Autozone is a good place to go if you need certain tools and they will give you a reader to use as well.. Good program they have going. I just like having the tool handy to use whenever I want/need it. I borrow something once and buy it the second time around.

 

Well if you're a "DIY" kind of guy, it would be better to just buy it (if you cam afford it).

 

hey fellas.
i dont mean to thread-jack but i had the engine light come on a while back, took it to a shop, they said it was one of the o2 sensors. the one that doesn't change the way the engine runs but the one that is there to keep an eye on the cat.
which one is that (part #)? and is there much issue with driving around without it working? (other then not knowing if something else is wrong)
