Are they at 2 foot centers?

 

Added a brick accent wall to my basement (BTW I hate brick) came out OK but I need to lighten the color....gonna try lime washing it.

 

really depends on its application. in this case it turned out good. some of the houses we looked at in the past though...holy crap, brick everywhere it shouldn't and even once in the bathroom

 

Brick is a dated thing....I needed to break it up in my basement and cover up a block wall. Hopefully I can lighten the red color, it’s the only thing that bothers me. If I can get it like the chimney I did it would be ok...if not...I will tear it out.

Do not understand the concrete part...but the rest I get. Do you mean concrete board or actual concrete?you can do 2x6 floor Joist at 2 foot..wow!

 

2" of concrete over the subfloor , its getting hydronic heat throughout the house

 

You can lay concrete over that! In the States they would shut us down.

 

For what reason

 

They did that in the 70's/80' around here, put a little over an inch of concrete or "elasticil" or however its spelled. Right over the sublfoor

It would be the 2x6 floor joist.....I guess if you are putting a tng ply that would tighten things up...but I would say the weight you are adding they would want an engineered system in play. I am not criticizing just surprised you can do it. You have harsher coded than we do.

 

Right, in the 70s/80s.....we just got safety options too!

 

Isn't this a light weight material? The stuff we used was called Gyp-crete. It was light, like plaster of Paris. It weighed about the same as solid, 3/4" T & G hardwood flooring.

 

Please tell me....am totally ignorant to concrete on wood framing.

You just need something to create a heat mass for the floor heat. Concrete is the best, but like said is very heavy. The stuff we used years ago was light weight, but still have you a mass to hold the heat better than just plane wood.

Radiant heat (tubes of hot water running thru the concrete) is one of the nicest heat types, but it does require some extra set up to be effective.

 

I understand the heat part, more than, the part where you can do it over 2x6 floor joist spread out over a 2 foot span.
