While we are on the topic of rebuilds @jberry813, how do you go about starting to revalve a coilover? I have a set of donahoes/icon I want to put on my 99 4Runner and want to get rid of the digressive valving but no clue where to start. I guess it’s trial and error to an extent but not sure I would really feel the slight differences in stacks/thickness.

Guess I could always just ask DSM to send a stack per their opinion.

    ...too much shit to list.
Shocks are definitely not difficult to work on. $250 in tools is a small price to pay if you genuinely are trying to get the most out of your suspension. A lot of people have the "it's good enough" mentality and a nitro setup would be cost prohibitive. For me it's a passion. I'd rather be rebuilding shocks in my garage and drinking beer than watching TV. Plus you have that one super cool tool none of your friends have and everyone wants. Good excuse for them to bring a bottle of whiskey and a case of your favorite beer.

You should definitely get tested bro. Sorry.

Throw them away and start over. DR/Icon uses a 2 piece dished piston. When you tighten up the shaft nut, it preloads the valve shims due to the raised lip. Nothing you can do about it because of the piston design.

    You’ll need a new piston I think

Edit - seconds too slow. King of TW beat me to it

this. very much this. I know i can rebuild them, i just havent yet because of not being able to refill easily. Would be awesome to revalve my front and rear to really set the stage for my suspension. Its nice now but theres always room for adjustment IMO.

Gotcha, I’ve noticed that. Hmm might just have to rebuild and use the money from selling to get some Kings. Thanks for the info.

I did for my Tundra but this is for my 4runner that I’ve been building. Going to be using it as my DD soon so want the best ride.

I bought a couple sets of Icons years ago super cheap to rebuild and just now getting around to it.

Great graph for that Social Justice Warrior next time they get in your face about your carbon footprint. I'll tell them my carbon footprint has Vibram on the sole. Would you like it in your butt? :)
