I curbed my Ford Ranger once and I hit it so hard that it blew my tire and bent my rim. I just had a realignment and a new tire and that was it.

Over time the rotor on the wheel that took the curb hit had to be replaced. Seemed as if there was a gouge in it. By gouge I mean it seemed to have a strange wear pattern in one area.

Something has to be loose or bent, if your steering wheel was straight and you hit something and the steering wheel is off now something changed obviously. Make sure the alignment shop checks everything very closely these trucks are known to bend spindles pretty easy. Make sure it didn’t skip the thread or jack something up on the tie rod end. I do alignments FYI. Alignments only change with normal wear , damage from hitting something , or something was or is loose . That’s it no secrets or mysteries it’s only mechanical linkage.

It was posted in another thread that the steer rack is mounted in slotted holes. So when you curb something, it just slides a bit to relieve pressure instead of bending something. This sounds like the case.

    Fingers crossed.

So there's no oil. It was just road grime and water.

Thanks! That's great advice. I should've mentioned i slid sideways into the curb, also rashed my rear rim...

Just an update, I took it to get looked at and was told the wheel bearing is the issue. Nothing is bent or misaligned.
Both right side rims are pretty rough and now the wheel bearing. Is this worth a claim?
Should I get a second opinion at the stealership?
Thanks again for all the help!

Good you didn’t flip hitting the curb sideways like that! Just replacing the bearing and possibly the race for it may be expensive- I’d take it to a dealer for a 2nd quote, and put in a claim based on their findings too if your deductible isnt more than the repair cost.

Also, ask the dealer what the warranty is on the bearing work- my replacement only lasted about 1500 miles and blew out, but they covered it.

Just buy a preassembled bearing kit from the vendor here and change it out in a few minutes yourself

I sold one of my yotas the other day. Anyone want the bumpers from it. Bring me a bottle of whiskey and it's yours.

Doode, this is like the very beginnings of mod evolution. It's gotta be the earliest known Yota mod. Kinda cool actually.

I went to Firestone auto center Thursday, they told me nothing was bent but I had a bad wheel bearing. Because it's a 2017 they can't get the part.

Went to the dealer on Friday, they also said nothing was bent and I just needed an alignment. So I had them do it. I have the paperwork showing it was out of spec.

Everything was fine until this morning while making a couple sweeping left turns on the highway at 60+. There's a loud grrr sound and noticeable feedback in the steering wheel. I am assuming this is a wheel bearing. This just started this morning and I was on the highway over the weekend. This doesn't happen at low speeds.

Off to the dealership this afternoon....
