My dealership had the balls to say it was normal and that it would eventually happen to all the 3rd gens once higher mileage was reached (number was not given). That and they said the brand new one on the lot chirped to just not as much as mine. Kid tried to tell me he would buy the brand new chirping truck if he could afford it. I just laughed in his face. You tube post of my chirp coming soon, they would not let me video tape the new one on the lot. Any one have any ideas on how to take this to court or any thing?

I have the exact same chirp, and the dealer told me the same "it's normal" nonsense this morning when I took it in for the 25k service. The noise is intermittent on mine as well, I'll have to see if changing gas has any impact on it.

changing gas to premium will likely make it less annoying but it won't go away entirely. mine also does it to a far lesser extent in the winter now that my A/C isn't being used FWIW. I guess time will tell how well these mutated cricket-sounding pumps hold the test of time. drive thrus are embarrassing though. perhaps it's Toyota's way of not only trying to make the air cleaner, but also discourage fast food? :notsure:

I have this issue on my 2017. It started pretty early on. I wasn't worried about it causing damage but rather it just being annoying. I've been reading this thread for some time now and switching gas stations resolved the problem for me.

I have always gotten gas from Shell for all my vehicles. I did the same with this one and the chirping started. Then one day I decided to get gas from Chevron because I was near one and I noticed that I wasn't hearing the chirping anymore. Well I've only used Chevron gas since and the chirping has not come back. I've heard multiple people on here mention that the chirping was being caused by ethanol in the gas and to use ethanol free gas. I looked for ethanol free gas but couldn't find a station that was reasonably close to me. But I guess Chevron is good enough. I'm not sure if Chevron gas is different depending on which state you live in but for me in CA, all the Chevron's I've tried fixes the chirping.

Good to hear that changing gas does something, but you shouldn't have to. You shouldn't have to segregate/be racist to our gas stations. I dont have much choices where i live, as its out in the desert. Total bs from toyota, ill be trading in for a chevy soon like i said. Main reason for me is that at drive through its so obnoxiously loud its really embarrassing having people ask me if there something wrong with my brand new truck. Anyone have any ideas on taking this to court? Or are we just all gonna be kitty's and sit back and take the big toyota in the butt?

Yeah mine is significantly better running Shell VPower but hardly ANY Chevron left in TN since they pulled out some time ago or I'd be all over that recommendation! I suppose one could just put the Techron additives in another fuel type but then perhaps you end up with TOO MUCH additives which can cause other problems in my experience.

Hah! My truck makes that sound but not as loud. I figured it was the fuel injectors. Man people sure are picky about every little sound

2017 TRD OR 20k miles, has cricket infestation. Thanks to @shakerhood for replying to my duplicate thread on this topic. (I was searching "squeal" and didn't find this one).

I'm heading to the dealer on Saturday and will report back with results.

Thanks to OP for creating this and everyone continuing the conversation.

For you guys that think paying more for gasoline is a solution, please feel free to send me money to help pay for my $40k truck that squeaks like a 1970s bucket. Are you guys absolutely insane that it's okay for a high-end truck like this to squeak and squeal?

I was initially worried that off-roading in the mud got some mud in a pulley and I'd have a hard time finding the squeak. I'm glad we know what the part is and that there are some success stories out there. If my new dealer brushes me off like the last one, I will certainly resort to filing a complaint with corporate and trolling their social media.

A brand new truck sounding like this is absolutely unacceptable.

I don't expect them to "succeed" but the key is persistence and spread. If enough people do it, something will get done. I've already tweeted at toyota.

Also going to another dealership helps. Had the one I bought the truck from blow me off. Went to another one and was told 10 minutes after dropping it off that the mechanic acknowledged the noise and the parts were ordered. 3 days later, truck was brought in and repaired. 18k miles later and tons of random gas station fuels, no issues.

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
I've asked this in another thread which failed to garner much interest on this question: How hot are these pumps supposed to feel, say, after 25 minutes of running at generally highway speeds, or even around town for comparison. Mine is too hot to the touch to lay fingers on it for more than about half a second. I'd guess in the 145-150 range or greater. I'd shoot it with the IR gun to give an objective data point, but since I noticed this on a drive where my '16 died on the side of the road, it's been in the dealership for repair and not accessible for me to put the IR on it. It seems there are enough TW members here and enough posts to indicate interest in the HPFP issues.

Anyone care to comment on how hot their HPFP gets after various drives, to establish some data?

My point is that this should not get as hot as mine seems to, gas flowing thru it should act to cool it, and temperatures as high as I saw could be boiling the gasoline rather than pumping it and causing the modern version of a vapor lock. Happy to hear from you, or to entertain any questions on the topic.

    Edit 149.5F via IR gun

It's pure conjecture on my part, but that thing is metal and is connected to the engine block. All of that shit is going to be too hot to touch after a quick drive.
