I was more surprised at the overall conference win percentages than anything.

    Two things:

    1) The Big 10 & Big 12 need to change their names
    2) Since all of college football would have to have an overall +/- of 0, I wonder what conferences are below 50%?

    1) Absolutely agree! That drives me nuts!
    2) Just scrolling through the site to get that info, the AAC, Conf USA, Mid ATL, Mountain West, Sunbelt all appear to have sub .500 win % without actually laying it out like I did for Power 5

I kinda figured it was most of the smaller conferences. I was just a bit surprised that even the big boys were well over 0.500.

That is an interesting graphic, thanks for doing that.

    Did a little math myself:

SEC has 36% of teams at .500 or lower
ACC, BIG10, Pac12 have 50% of teams at .500 or lower
Big12 has 40% of teams at .500 or lower

what does this say? not much lol.

To me, it says that the SEC as a whole was more competitive against each other, but does that say much on the national stage?

Ahah! I found someone who put together exactly what I wanted. This guy gives me the data I wanted that is the basis for me saying "The SEC is down and weaker" this year.

    http://www.colleyrankings.com/curconf.html

The SEC has the most games played against the FCS and the Sun Belt (the 2 weakest conferences per win percentage), and this INCLUDES A LOSS (thanks LSU). This provides the SEC with 24 of its 102 wins total. The next closest is the ACC with 15-0 against these 2 lowest ranked conferences. THAT'S A 9 GAME DIFFERENCE. The SEC also has 7 games against the CUSA (more than any other Power 5 conference)

The SEC against the other Power 5 conference are 6-9
    Big 10 is 7-5, Pac12 is 6-2, ACC is 8-9, Big 12 is 4-6.

Saying the SEC is "clearly the best" was once a defensible position, even if it wasn't undisputed. That's no longer the case.

Now it's more like the best of the SEC is as good as anybody, but the middle and bottom of the conference has fallen way off. The conference is pretty top heavy.

Even if people don't think Alabama belongs in the playoffs, the conference still has 3 in the top 10. The B1G also has 3, the ACC has 2, and the PAC12 and Big12 each have 1.

Anybody saying the SEC is still CLEARLY the best conference is a homer.

Eh, I can't say the best of the SEC is as good as anybody until after the playoff. If the middle and bottom have fallen way off, being the teams that the "top" beat....how impressive is it to have only beaten teams that are way worse than usual?

Tell you what... If both SEC teams get blown out in the playoff games, I'll concede that the best of the SEC can't play with the best of the rest.

lol I'm not saying they can't, I'm saying I don't have the answer currently because it's not proven. the only ones that have played were Auburn/Clemson and Auburn lost, but Auburn beat Alabama so logically Clemson beats Alabama right? lololol trolling of course, because that's not how college football works. The other "greats" that the top have played are TERRIBLE (FSU and Notre Dame). So I just can't for sure say if SEC best can play with other conference bests. That's what the playoff decides.

If the SEC teams get blown out and you DON'T concede, you're an idiot :rofl:

Our biggest injury is our inside linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton. He went down last year(SECCG) with a torn knee and went down this year(vs LSU) again with a fractured kneecap. He is a huge loss for us with him being the signal caller and lining everyone else up. We should have our other 3 starting LBs back from injury but time will tell if they are 100% by game time.

Is it possible, that the SEC isnt down as much as the rest of the top teams are up? What i mean by this is, when the SEC was "clearly the best", every other conference really only had one realistic title contender. The rest of the teams in that conference werent necessarily as competitive.

Now, each conference has two teams that have the talent and coaches to out together a run.

While I agree that the SEC seems down, I also want to point out that other conferences have gotten better. Clemson just a few years ago was "Clempsoning" and OSU wasnt really that relavant. Wisconsin and Penn State and Michigan have made strides, NC State and Miami are both up, FSU had a down year, but they were up for a while, USC is coming along, and the Big12 has Okie, and TCU that are either in or close. I expect Texas to be back within 3 years.

The SEC has suffered from cannibalism since the BCS days, and that will only spread to other conferences as they develop.

Just trying to give credit, where its due. Coaches are doing what needs to be done to win. And universities are willing to run the coaching carosel to get a coach who will win.

On another note, OU's coach just turned 34...lol fucking awesome. Im 36....

does it matter which way you look at it?

sounds like you're lobbying the same point with a different perspective lol

view 1: SEC is down this year, and other conferences are improved
view 2: Everyone else is up to SEC level, SEC is still just as good

practically identical, with one sounding more optimistic towards the SEC.
