Bumper caps.

New guy here. 3rd Tacoma. 4th Toyota truck. Traded my 2013 Tundra for the new Taco 2 weeks ago. Happy with the truck so far, but I he ugly chrome bumper ends gotta go. Suggestions on simplest and most cost effective way of doing this. Thanks.

 

Plasti dip

 

Rock Auto has the matte black OEM caps for $60 each.

 

Plasti dip is a low cost way to test out the look.

I dipped mine over the summer and they are holding up well.

Some Plasti dip the caps in place, I removed mine and it was pretty easy.

Thanks. I will be eventually replacing the bumper with something more substantial in the near future. But for now, the chrome ends and the front grill gotta go.

 

My very first mod. Couldn't stand that plastic monstrosity.

 

I had my plastidipped but my corners kept getting rubbed and it would tear and plastidip is hard to clean if it gets dirty. I ended up pulling the plastidip and vinyl wrapped it instead. I have a super white and the 3m vinyl was a little more white than the truck but wasn’t completely noticeable from afar.

 

I'm guessing you cant buy these prepainted? I searched around and cant seem to find them, only black and chrome.

 

Gonna buy the black ones.

 

A couple questions.....Wondering where you bought the vinyl wrap? Also, was it hard to install yourself? Could you post a picture? Thanks.

 

Got the vinyl off Amazon. I got the 3m gloss white vinyl. I would say it was kinda difficult because of the corners and bends. I used a heat gun and it helps a lot. I also ended up using an overlay technique over the top portion and knifeless tape to shape it. I did a lot of YouTubing before I attempted this and even then I spent almost an hour per side. I don’t have a super clear picture of the back end of my truck but here’s a side view and you can see the bumper cap is slightly more white than my truck

 

I am having the same issue. Wish I could just buy my end caps pre-painted in inferno. Even went to a body shop and they refused to do it. Said they "couldn't warranty the work".

Im thinking of just getting the black done BUT would much prefer body colored. Inferno orange.

Could never fathom why they gave TRD off road 3rd gen chrome caps, but SR5 Tacoma's got color matched. Where is the logic??

 

No doubt. I’m about to ask whoever the person with a SR5 is that works down the street from my house if I can buy their silver ones! Hehehe. I figure I will offer mine and some $ and what’s the worst that can happen? They say no. If they do, I’ll eventually buy some and get them painted. The chrome is a complete no go in the long term for me.

 

Honestly depending on how hard they are to pull off i may just spray mine with the toyota superwhite spray can.

My 2017 SR5 has chrome caps...

 

I’ve seen multiple SR5’s with painted bumper caps. Not sure what the deal is. The guy that works near me has a silver SR5 with painted caps.
