Best ride quality challenge

I did exactly what some are suggesting, replaced my stock Sport Hitachi shocks with a take off set of OR Bilsteins and I can tell you, it made a world of difference. My community has speed bumps that would make the stock shocks very harsh and ALWAYS cause my dash cam to activate the g-force recording. Now with the Bilsteins, it still activates it, but only half the time. I was concerned at first about voiding the factory warranty, but for the difference it made, i am really glad i replaced them. To me it was totally worth it and you can find a set easily, craigslist or on TW. I got a set from another member here. Just do a WTB listing in the 3rd gen for sale thread and hopefully someone in your area will have a set they dont want/need.

my wife is 67yrs old and all about ride quality on her trips to the mall and Kroger. if the truck were 3" shorter she would like it even better.

What I'm trying to say is, is she used to leaf spring suspension?
If you don't let the springs unload, it stiffens the ride over bumps. Under braking, they're in a state of wrap.

While on the subject of buying a set of stock shocks that someone has pulled from their OR, I have a question. I have a base Prerunner. From time to time I see shocks (and sometimes springs) off of an almost new truck. What would I gain on my truck if I upgraded to the OR suspension? Inquiring minds want to know.

$778, including tax, in a local shop (Newnan GA) If you can get a set of take-offs from an OR (they're Bilstein 4600s) essentially the same shock as the 5100s, it would be a lot easier, and if you do it yourself ( I wouldn't tackle the fronts unless you know what you're doing) even less. I think the 4 shocks alone were around $400, but you can get them for less on ebay

Did it myself so just the price of the shocks. The rears are very easy to do if you want to save some money.

 

Did you also change the front coil springs or only the shocks?

 

Were you on Sport shocks before the upgrade? I'm in a Sport, but I find the ride a little harsh but am also looking to raise the front up a bit. 5100's sound like they fit the bill for me?

 

I changed out the whole coilovers with shocks for the front and the rear shocks. I have since got them changed back to the Sport Hitachi’s due to a warranty issue, but now i like the sport shocks better. Handling is much better and less bounce. I had both, like the Hitachi’s better... i had the OR shocks on for a year and i only do street driving.

I don't believe a stock access cab weighs more than 5,000 pounds. The shocks really should help the ride quality for him.

 

I thought the stock OR Bilsteins didn’t have a very good ride. I’ve been much happier with the Bilstein 6112s and 5160s. Better in every way in my opinion.

 

I am in a 2019 DCSB Sport and the ride is rough. The whole family rattles around when the pavement isn't smooth as butter. My wife's Ford Explorer Sport rides like a cloud but still feels firm when needed. Is the OR shocks similar? Looking to pick up some locally but wasn't sure if it's better to just upgrade to 5100's all the way around or not.
