Unless your truck has no tow pkg wiring you’re better off using an adaptor that does just what you’re asking. I carry one in my console always. Think I bought it from autozone 2 or 3 years back, less than $10.

    I have done it.
Resettable fuse off of battery. One wire through the firewall. Other wires through the plug under the drivers seat and then drivers side kickplate to the area underneath the steering wheel. Then back to the drivers side tail light where you connect all wires to the flat four harness and then to the 7 pin. I don't tow that much and we get lots of salt in the winter, so I put the 7 pin harness in the drivers side bed storage bin - no corrosion. I cut out the middle hole there a bit to accept the 7 wires and made a long tail so the harness goes out over the tailgate to the trailer. Used lots of wire loom.
Any U-Haul or pickup shop can do the job. It is just a bit more time consuming without the pre wires on a 6 cylinder.

4 cylinders with a brake controller are rare, but they are out there. Two of my trailers came with electric brakes, but both are only 1000 ponds. Safety first.

This is exactly what you need, an easy 4 wire hookup. I'm using the same one.

Im sure one of the NJDB will give you a hand with the wiring, pretty straight forward.
Splurge a bit and get a decent brake controller.

Assume your getting this for a trailer w/brakes? or want to have reverse and/or aux power running to it.

Right on, yup that kit will do it.
Plug that 4 pin, ground the new Negative wire in the kit and then run the power up to the battery up to a resettable fuse breaker and then to the battery Positive and your all set.
