Regearing for 33s. 4.30 vs. 4.56

    Planning on regearing to help accommodate for 285s, and the extra weight. Now that 4.30 is available for the front diff also I would like to hearssome opinions about both. How many of you that went 4.56 would've gone 4.30 if given the option now. I still use the truck as a DD/ weekend warrior now. We recently picked up a jayco 174bh which is about 3500 loaded so that really made the need for gears obvious.

    One thing about the 4.3 that seems cool, is that it is available stock on the 3rd gen, so you may be able to swap out junkyard clamshell/3rd.

    are you V6 or 4cylinder?
    I never had issue with 33s and towing even through blue ridge mtns of east TN. But my 33s were lighter p-metric type tires, not LT type, so that may have made a difference.

    I always ask. As a man trans, I'm torn between 4.10 and 4.30. You're on track for auto. The deciding factor will be whether you're regearing for the road or off road. Go lower for off road, but 4.30 will be better fuel economy while giving you back the power you lost.

    I'm pretty sure @Kyitty is happy with his 4.56, but he wanted moar powah for off roading.

    I have 4.56, 255/85s, and supercharged. I need a DD. Winter daily driving is killing the build. Or that I am not letting it warm up, so I am getting 10mpg..

    But 4.56s gave me more low end torque.

    I have 4:56 with a manual and 33s, which is different. It definitely limits my highway speeds since the manual doesn't really have an overdrive gear. I actually wanted 4:30, but back then it was not an option. I'm thinking that 4:56 would be a good option with the auto if your truck gets used as a truck.

    4.56 if you ever want 35s or do a lot of slow rock crawling. 4.3 otherwise imo.

    but im also running 35s on stock 3.73 for almost 2 years. what do i know :notsure:

    ps. i have towed 3000lb load without any complaints

    4:56 on 285s. If I had to make a complaint it would be RPMs at freeway speeds but it’s really not that bad and by freeway I mean 80mph. I very rarely take the truck to that speed so it’s not that big of a deal.

    I went from 285s to 315s and am getting my truck back soon from the regear to 4:56s. IMO the uphills on 285s can get sluggish in stock gearing, but I wouldn't have regeared for 33's as my truck sees a lot more highway and doesn't need the higher RPMs and torque since I don't slow crawl much.

    The real question is...even if you say you don't plan to go to dirties...do you really believe that. I told myself that punchline for two years cause I didn't want to regear, but the trail schooled me up.

    another option instead of regearing for 35s is using 4 for autos (which is what i do), pretty much the same as 5th regeared for highway use.

    i average 13mpgs fyi

    Thanks so mine will fall on 3.73. Debating on regearing too, leaning towards on 4.56 but then this thread pop out. Curious on 4.30
