What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

HF seal puller is fine, it might bend but whatever take a piece of flat bar weld it up and it'll be beef.

 

Holy crap that's expensive! I guess you really get what you pay for. I might just try my luck with the $80 HF one. I'm probably only going to use it once and never touch it again. Or maybe I'll just rent the parts store one...

I need quick disconnect tools to remove the tranny lines right?

 

The dies and cups in the ball joint presses are nice to have just to use for other stuff haha, but if you are just doing the uppers and don't have future plans for one just rent it for now. I never removed the auto tranny from the engine when I pulled it haha, so no clue, I thought they were threaded, they're threaded on my cruiser.

 

Ah it has its days but all in all it isn’t too bad if you know how to work on a vehicle

 

Separating the tranny from the engine is my biggest nightmare. I tried separating the trans from my buddy's '95 Ford Ranger when he was parting it out and I could never get it to come off. I think I forgot to unbolt the torque converter.

The impact of the crash was so great on the Ranger it blew off the engine mounts. I think they're designed to break off so it doesn't become a projectile - I ended up just pulling the whole engine/tranny off as one unit.

 

You'll get it, even unbolting the torque converter is just a minor inconvenience. Everytime I've changed a transmission, up to 4 in this last year alone, the hardest part has been getting it lined up back on the engine. Also make sure the torque converter is fully sunk in the pump before you put the new tranny on or you'll kill it really fast.

 

What's a good way to tell if it's seated properly?

 

You are better off getting a 21 piece ball joint set from eBay. I used a small set and none of them fit either to small or to big.

Just another excuse to get sliders and a new bumper. Lol!

 

Installed new SPC upper control arms and Whiteline lower control arm bushings. Sunday, new steering rack, outer tie rods, and new stabilizer bar links and bushings.

 

Man I would be so worried that sand got in that clam shell.

 

I'm pretty sure some did. I'll do a thorough cleaning when I swap out the manual jackshaft.

 

How will you get it all out without opening it?
