From what everyone is commenting you may want the washer fixed before the tune so you can clean your undies.

I thought about putting this in another thread, but it seems to fit here? My apologies if folks feel otherwise.

Wednesday afternoon, I accidentally put 92 octane in. I hit the wrong button and didn't realize it until it was flowing. It was a total of 18.9gal, so it is about 91.5 octane mixed.

I didn't notice much difference driving it normally except for what seems to be a slight bump in MPGs. We'll see if that pans out for real. What I did notice is that when getting into the accelerator deeply the torque feels linear without even a surge at 4k.

It is puzzling. It could also be the ECU learning / adapting? I feel that I don't seem to have some of the problems mentioned here, even on 87. I would even say that the blips are slightly too aggressive on the stock tune of my truck and there doesn't seem to be any delay compared with other electronic throttles that I have driven.

I may try for a couple more tanks to see if it sticks? With only a 1mpg difference, the cost is covered. It does seem to eliminate about half the reason I wanted the tune though. The other half is DFCO / engine braking which doesn't seem to be addressed at this time.

I just thought this seemed odd and might even be placebo? If folks are curious, I would be happy to post updates?

Did the temperature drop there? My truck fees like a completely different vehicle throttle wise when it's below 40 degrees.

Wow. I just went and test drove a 2018 Cement TRD OR DC and couldn't believe how bad the stock tune was. I've been spoiled by OV.

Guess we have our answer about 2018 OEM M/T calibration.. still sucks, no change, and no surprise.

    so you normally run 87?

i have only used the 91 tune with 93 fuel since the beginning, except when i was last in CO and was running whatever it is you can find there, 89-91.

on every version I've run, including test tunes, the ignition timing either comes on gradually or like a snap. it is based on other factors, not simply fuel. as Mat has mentioned, it's complicated, unnecessarily so, and will take time to iron out. seems to me the "calculated load" variable or whatever it is exactly is the, or at least a, culprit. but I'll shut up now since i don't know what I'm talking about.

It's been awhile since I chimed in...

I now have a solid 5k on 1.03 and have experienced no degradation. Had a friend in my truck the other day who hasn't been in the truck since I installed the tune. He builds and races speed3's for a living and he even commented on how much "get up and go" the truck has compared to what it was before. He has been pushing me to let him build me an inline TT setup but I dont want that.

Speed 3 you say? My 1.03 test tune 04B10 is not even close to the same realm as my Speed 3. Better then stock for sure though.

I don't know what the dealer filled the tank with, but I have been using Costco 87 except for one tank of 76 87, which felt, oddly, like crap. That said, the Wife says her Forester XT runs better on 76 than either Costco or Chevron (92 only since it is a HP turbo). ?? I'm mystified.

So, yeah, first tank with 92. I only have the stock tune, which is why I'm surprised and questioning whether to post about it in this thread. But after more miles, it feels very different, all in good ways.

In general, I only run what is required, which would be 87 in my Ducati since it is only 10.2:1.

I do agree with you that throttle pedals these days are just devices that request how much torque the driver wants. That said, after driving many vehicles with ETBs, only our old saab (still was annoying, but damn that was a great motor), a last gen Camry rental (most likely DI), the Wife's Forester (DIT), and the Taco feels like it is doing what I want. The Taco feels a ton better on 92? Just weird!

I'm sooo confused. I must have gotten stupid lucky? Which is a very odd thing for me. Mine drives like the other 2017 that I took for a quick test drive and about the same as a 2007 that I took on a couple long test drives, except that it felt winded at the top end of the RPM range.

I believe that @OVTune is doing a great job, I'm just feeling less and less that a tune would be worth it on my motor. It would be something that I would like to test drive, but . . .

haven't been following and didn't realize you're still stock.

as far as the tune benefits go...
for you the simple advice i have is to never drive a tuned MT. the mid-range torque improvement is worth every penny alone, especially for the MT driver.

I'm not trying to convince you. the torque would do that on its own.

I'm back on 1.03 91 tune. I was making an illegal u turn last night and when I got turned around I punched it. About 3000 rpm, my clutch broke free and bounced the engine off the Rev limiter. It smoked the clutch pretty bad but it seems ok today. I probably took about 30k worth of life off it. 1.03 feels more powerful this time I have flashed it vs the first time. Less missing and stutters too. Power seems to be there. I guess I will baby the clutch for a bit in case I glazed it any.
