Listen guys.I test drove a 2016 silver 4wd 4 door trd sport this weekend at Nissan dealership and I like it but I did noticed several things that made me nervous about buying it.First of all I have a 1 genearation tacoma which is bulletproof and I will have to trade it in. Second the 2016 seems to be underpowered and I heard that kazoo noise come thru the truck which is annoying and loud and the transmission is a lot different from what I’m used to. I love the upgrades and u can’t beat a tacoma. Is there a tsb for that noise coming thru the cab or any thing else I should be aware. It has 10,000 miles and still under factory warranty.Exicted and nervous at the same time.Planning on pulling trigger Monday maybe.Please give your advice and opinions.

 

Have you ever heard the expression "go with your gut"?

If you have doubts about this truck, then maybe you need to keep looking.

Sounds like you answered your own questions with the things you really don’t like.

 

There is a TSB for the "kazoo noise" you can take it in and they will fix it.

 

Not all trucks have those issues. If the one you test drove wasn’t perfect, then the truck parked next to it could be.

If any vehicle doesn’t tickle you after a test drive, don’t buy it. Unless the issues were minimal and you’re confident they can be remedied by the dealer or manufacturer to your satisfaction. Otherwise you’re starting off on the wrong foot - IMO, your post above suggests that to me.

 

OP if you ever regret big purchases because you didn't do enough research to know what you're getting into exactly...

then i suggest slowing down and doing said research first. it's all right here, most of it anyways.

 

What are they asking for it? Most used Tacomas I see, you can get a brand new one for just a couple thousand more.
Now, let me tell you a little story. I had put a deposit down on an Inferno Sport (2016), and when it came in I had a gut feeling something wasn´t going to be right. And this was before reading all the stuff on TW. I ended up getting my deposit back and walked away. The dealership sold the truck not long after, and then it wasn´t too long after that, the same truck was sitting at a used car lot.
I am not telling you this to scare you away from 3rd gen Tacoma, I am still heavily considering a Tacoma myself, but I ended up buying a new motorcycle this year, so next year I will be back in the truck market. I am telling you this to let you know, its best to follow your gut.
Now, a few more points to make here. If the price of the 2016 is not too much less than 2017 or 2018, remember, in 2017 a switch was added for the power rear sliding glass. You may be able to get a better deal on a new 2017 from a Toyota dealer if they are getting 2018s in now. The 2018 models added Toyota Safety Sense. Not sure if you care about that or not, but the insurance may be a little less on those(not sure).
Also, if you are financing, consider your interest rates on new vs. used.

 

you'll likely get a better APR if you buy new vs used. I was looking at a 14' trdor for 30k, but interest on a certified preowned was almost 5% I wound up with a 16' trdor for 33k and interest at 2.4% Im bad at math but it was a 14$ per month difference and the 16' had a warranty

I would pass on the used 16, you can get a new 17 for not much more and you won't have to wonder about the history of the truck.

 

It’s a 2016 TRD Sport 4x4 dc with 10,000 miles. It has Clean car fax And all the accessories for it .Asking price here in Tenn is 34,000 OTD.. Thanks guys for advice..I guess I can wait a little longer and just get one next year

 

I know some guys swap vehicles quickly, but anytime I see a <2 year vehicle on the lot used, I automatically assume it's a lemon.

 

That’s what scares me . I feel that way at times.I always wonder why would a person trade in a vehicle that is fairly new .Either they couldn’t afford it or it’s a lemon. Why would u buy a car u didn’t like in the first place.

 

There’s 1000 reasons why someone would and only one of them is a negative reason - it’s a problem child/lemon. The other 999 reasons are perfectly fine.

 

If you absolutely have to trade in your first gen, I vote no. If you can swing keeping it, I vote yes.

 

The worst feeling is looking in your driveway and saying, "yep, I really did buy another car and it's still here" - be 100% happy with your decision to purchase or don't do it at all!

i find that most were just leased and returned.

 

I would think there have to be very few leases that run less than 2 years, I think 3 years is about the norm

 

Not sure about 2 years but 3 is the most common. I even thought about a lease but I would rather buy mine . If I did find a used Tacoma coming off lease for sale it would probably be a safe buy
