    By simplicity the DI system is more efficient. In real world use yes the piston gun tends to be more reliable, but that does not mean it is more efficient.

    I mean really thing of all the kinetic energy that is lost each time the energy is transfer from the piston, to the connecting rod, and then to the bolt carrier. In the DI system all of that energy is transferred to the bolt carrier.

    I think it is too. It's just not as reliable over time.
