Pin Bearing Issues 2017 Tacoma

Hey there Husband of shopgirl here...... and here are some images of the lift and driveline I find the last two images with the white chalk interesting as if they are marking into see if we have it repaired properly or not

 

It's a cheap spacer lift - I think everyone expected that. Regardless of what kind of lift, you were going to get the vibration. The chalk marks aren't alarming per se, the trucks leave the factory with a variety of paint pen markings anyway. Those marking seem to be over plugs on the frame...irrelevant to the issue.

The point of all of this is the salesman and his dealer hosed his own sister and ultimately the thing that's going to make it right is to get that ECGS bushing installed by someone else (since they aren't playing ball). Take this as a lesson learned and move on. If you don't offroad, you likely won't need to change the "lift." If you do, consider doing it right with some actual coilovers and shocks.

Sounds like the brother cared more about getting the sale then taking care of you. This is a dealership issue, not a Toyota Corp issue.

Just some friendly personal advice: Save the family, your relationship with your brother isn’t worth getting him fired over the stupid truck. My bro and I argued for years over a dumb family car and I am truly ashamed I was so stupid for doing it. I hope this all goes well for you, in the long run, my bro and I are closer but it was a sad point of our younger days I wish never happened.

Just quietly get the bearing fixed elsewhere and don’t tell anyone about it- they won’t know and you can smile over it as you can finally enjoy your fixed truck and have a nice cold one with your brother on good terms.

I am no mechanic and my truck is stock, but reading about this unfortunate circumstance, I agree with the last two posts.

Family is more important and try and look at this long term.

That truck will be gone some day but your family is "forever".

I installed the ECGS bushing when I lifted my truck, no vibration before and no vibrations after. I figured I might as well do it while I had everything apart and avoid worrying about it later. The bushing, and new gasket, runs about $80 plus a couple for shipping I believe.

I'm willing to bet there are members on this forum near you who have the install tool and would be more than happy to help you install it for the cost of a meal and some beer. I had some members help me install mine a couple of months back and when I say help I mean they did 90% of the work! Thanks @fajitas21 @TACORIDER and @Tacodriver08!

I bet your brother has no clue about what lifts are good or bad and no clue about the vibration issue that comes along with the lift, just replace it and move on...it's not worth ruining your relationship over.

 

Another dealer might put the bushing in, but since they didn't do the lift, I can't see them caring anymore than the original dealer. If it was me, I'd just get an indy shop to do the bushing and call it good.

Thank you all for the input and advice we are going to get it changed out by an independent shop and moving forward it is just a daily driver we have a jeep for when we go off road......

 

I've replaced quite a few front diff bearings with the ECGS bushing. This is the most recent one. If you look close enough, you can see one of the needles is missing. I found it broken in half just on the inside of the axle seal. The truck was a 2017 TRD OR with only 1086 miles on it. These needle bearings are a problem with or with out the truck being lifted.

My truck had driveline vibrations before I lifted. When I lifted I had the ecgs bushing installed still had vibrations. Figured it was from the driveline, 2 degree shim fixed that. No vibrations now.

Problem with most lifted vehicles is it chasing the rabbit hole to fix problems related to the mods. Just found on my alignment cam tabs are ruined thanks to firestone going to have aftermarket ones welded on.

Just need to be able to find the problems /solutions and either fix it yourself or find a reputable shop

 

your brother sold you a truck with a bullshit lift, then told you immediately after he knew of the issue. Dont be mad at Toyota for not wanting to fuck with your janky ass dealer installed bullshit. Be mad at your brother for basically being the reason everyone hates dealerships.

 

I'll sum up everything pretty simply for you.

Toyota corporate really has nothing to do with the issue. Getting a lawyer will not help in regards to corporate. I would stop calling and talking to corporate or your file will just keep growing.

The dealership's cheap spacer lift is the sole and root cause for the issue. The needle bearing has been a common issue for lifted trucks and can even go on stock ones.

As others have said have an ECGS bearing installed at a shop or do it yourself if you are mechanically included. I would save the family drama and just pay for the fix. The dealership out of good will may cover it or hell why not ask your brother to. A new needle bearing will fail again; it is just a matter of time.

You can see the camber is way out. Should be close to zero. There's way too much camber and it's going to wear the outside edge of the tire.

 

Possibly, but might just be an uneven driveway making it look that way

 

In the second picture the driveway looks pretty flat. In the third picture, if you look close, you can see the passenger side is also cambered out. Dollars for donuts that they didn't perform an alignment after the lift was put in.

When it's on flat ground site down the side and check that the front wheels are straight up and down just like the rear wheels. If the wheels on the front look like they are leaning out you need an alignment. Zero camber is straight up and down.

 

Is there a lift that anyone suggests we change to...... we got our truck back Thursday with the new needle bearing this morning heard the vibration again so we have decided to get the ECGS bearing but am also considering having a new lift installed by an independent shop that is trusted we've lost any and all credibility with dealership and monkeys I meant mechanics
