Bshammer and others that have done this mod...I have a 2017 double cap Premium Entune with JBL. Not happy with the distortion level and lack of depth in the sound from the door speakers. Would you all say the Subaru tweets and the kicker door speakers are an upgrade to the JBL premium system or is this mod only an upgrade to the standard stock system?

Took advantage of crutchfields Black Friday sale on the speakers, ordered the tweets of eBay. Total for all came in under 200. Can't wait to install these!

Anyone with a Viper alarm, are there any special precautions to take when removing the door locks? I don't want to risk screwing something up.

The door locks are connected with teo pins a white and green. There is no plug so it should be just fine. Im running a different alarm but couldnt think of how it would screw anything up.

Just FYI in case you were considering the Subaru tweeters.....a guy posted in my “EASY tweeter upgrade” thread a week or so ago.....turns out that the connectors on the JBL tweeters are not the same as those on the standard entune system. The Subaru tweeters are not directly compatible. Just want to save you from some frustration in case you were planning to order them!

Cool, thanks! Just wasn't sure if they did anything extra that would interfere.

One or two things modded... Check out the build thread
Were you able to get the rears as well? I tried but they kept pushing the date back further and further. So I went with a mismatch set.

Are you running an amp for your doors? Sorry for so many questions, just looks like we have the same setup going. Hope you love it!

What is the crossover point for the tweeters? Or at least what is the size of the capacitor in the Subaru replacement?

I don’t want to speakers playing the same signal. That’s just a recipe for cross phase cancelation.

I’d like to add the tweeters and low pass the door speakers until I figure out my long term audio plan.

No amp yet. Just running off the stock head unit. Its decent without the amp. I do plan to upgrade the head unit and maybe an amp as well in the future. Still waiting for the rears. I went with a 2-way for the rear cause I didn't feel like making a hole in my door for the tweeter. I may decide to go with components for the rears anyways since these are taking a while to fulfill. The only thing to watch out for is that certain 6.5 won't fit in the back. I think due to the depth of the 6.5

U need these if thats ur concern snd cheaper than buying 6x9 and suburu seperate. Just add 2 backstraps to cart and attach with double sided tape.

Just finished with mine, tweeters and both doors which were sitting on a shelf for almost 2 months! I think the hardest part was just figuring out how to attach the speakers to the mounts as Crutchfield gives you all kinds of hardware and basically zero instructions. Once I got past that, pulling the doors apart only got easier. By the time I did the front passenger door (last), I felt like a professional and it only took a few minutes.

I've never replaced factory speakers, and want to thank everyone for such good help. I just went for a nice afternoon drive and WOW, what a difference!!!! Let's hope I also fixed my passenger dash rattle while I was at it.

    Woooo!

Welcome to the club! :) It definitely can be intimidating at first but with the knowledge and videos available anyone can tackle it and totally worth the little bit of time and money to fix that mess of paper speakers! Enjoy

Yes, I may even go back and do some dynamat as I'm totally confident taking these doors apart now. Thanks for the original post, I think I ordered from Crutchfield in September and needed some vacation to TCB. It was truly shocking to see, feel, and HEAR the difference!

Just finished my install today. I got the kickers from Crutchfield and the box and sub from ********* to match my JL Audio 600x1 amp. While I had the doors off I put the norico (so?) sound deadening around the mounts and around the inner skin of the door. I also pulled my ********* subbox and used the norico stuff on the back wall and some on the floor. When I turned on my radio and connect to my Bluetooth- well, you know what happens next. Beautiful music... very very impressed and I haven’t even got to play with it yet.

    Thanks y’all

Finally installed my speakers today, Wow! They sound great! Hard to believe it only cost $200! I bought the same setup as the OP. Definitely a major upgrade. The install get easier as it goes, by the time i was on the last door I felt like i have been doing it for years.
