I tried the sample size Quintana Ruban and liked it, but not as much as the Lasnta. It's just hard to get a good feel for it from a small sample. From what I've read QR is more "complex" than the Lasanta - I've seen it referred to as its Big Brother. That may be something for me to invest in after I've had more time to develop my taste. Speaking of "over-investing", I'm in the same boat. I need to stop for awhile as it's so easy to get carried away!

Do you have BevMo or Total Wines? They sell the QR in airline bottles. If you haven't tried it that is a cheap way to sample it.

We only have (recently, thanks to Texas law change) Total Wines. BevMo doesn't play in Texas, at least not yet. I'll have to look for a small sample bottle next time we go.

I think TW trounces BevMo in every way. They have more of everything; types of beer, wine and spirits. Not even close. Apparently their prices are better as well. TW was out of Hibiki, but so are most of the BevMo places. If I had to choose between having one or the other, TW is it.

    BTW - what Texas law?

There was a referendum on a recent election that (if I understand it correctly, it was very badly written) changed how close alcohol could be sold from schools - and since there's a school on almost every corner, it severely limited where they could be. Before the law change, I had to drive about 30 minutes to get to the nearest liquor store, now there's a few independent operators/stores within 5 minutes and the Total Wine is about 10-15 minutes away.

I don't have a whole lot of spare change laying around so I go in the lower end. Tulamore Dew in a 1:3 ratio whiskey/water and some ice.

I enjoy this more than I do beer, which for a long time was my go to, very enjoyable with good taste.

I definitely can't do liquor+Coke anymore. It messes my stomach and I get jittery. I'll knock out when I go to bed feeling nice and then wake up 3 hours later wide awake. Whiskey+water=no hangover and no jitters.

I am also a very novice recreational liquor drinker. Ive always drank to get toasted not to enjoy it. Fortunately, life progresses out of the 20s and things slow down some.

Any Tips are appreciated to further enjoy my drinks.

Weller is good, go for it. It's pretty smooth and is one I enjoy.

Depends on price... Around here it’s a $16 bottle and a deal at that price. Last bottle I saw, was marked up to $25... Eagle Rare is $29. I went with the Eagle!

Problem with Weller is the recent hype the past couple of years. It’s got lineage to the grandfather of super-hyped bourbons, the Pappy line.

One per person on a sub-$20 bottle is crazy!

I’d love to get a bottle of the 12 year to round out the trifecta though!

I never mix bourbon with coke. Either straight or with a splash of water. If you want something to mix with coke then pay $15 a bottle otherwise enjoy the taste notes of a good bourbon.

Edit - didn't see the $16 price you found it for. That's a great price. It's $29 here. It's good with a splash of water.

    Damn mark-ups!!!

There is no price increase planned. Suggested retail price for the 750ml bottles of Weller Special Reserve is $17.99, Weller Antique 107 is $19.99, and Weller 12-Year-Old $24.99each

How does that Antique 107 compare to the Special Reserve. We kinda like the Special Reserve, but most Buffalo Trace products are difficult to find - like huntin' snipes.

Went with hot Earl grey tea. Half of a squeezed lemon. Hit of honey and 1.5 ounces of Wellers. Bueno indeed.
