Chose my 14 over a newer one specifically because of price. I feel I got a decent deal on mine. Only thing I wish I knew was the difference between the SR5 and TRDOF. I would have spent more if I knew the cool shit the higher trim level came with, but oh well

Well mine was an 08 with 100k miles on it. Couldn’t touch a 15 for that much

I got my 2012 6 months ago with 24k because I drive a ton and will have this truck over 200k in under 4 years. The 2nd gen is a known entity. Everything that can go wrong is well documented on this forum and there are no surprises. The 3rd gen is having some teething pains and I would prefer to let other people beta test that truck and deal with a slightly less attractive dash.

The 2nd gen Tacoma will be remembered as one of the most reliable and robust vehicles of this time period. We will see how things go for the 3rd gen.

The front end of my truck is gorgeous. Not sure what you’re talking about. It’s WAY better than my 2nd gen.

I personally recommend going new. If your budget allows it, why not get something that’s only been touched by you and you know the maintenance you’ve put into it? Not only that if you’re going to spend close to 30k you may as well go new and get warranty too. I hated the front end of the 3rd gens as well but it grew on me and now I have a 17’ TRD DCLB in the Inferno Red color and I’m super happy with it. It’s getting a small lift here soon with some wheels and tires. The ONLY downside I’ve noticed as mentioned is the power. It lacks power in low RPM’s but it comes alive after 3.5kRPM where you start noticing the power increase in comparison to the 4.0L. The interior is also FAR superior to the 2nd Gen. A lot more sleek, clean, and overall just a nice interior. I also love how the 3rd gens come with projector lenses so it’s better if you want to install HID’s instead of buying a retrofitted headlight with a projector close to $1k. You can go on and on but it all comes down to what’s YOU are going to use it for. Lots of odd rosding or more of highway use. I personally recommend the 3rd gen if you’re budget allows it but to each his own. There’s my .02!

Also the ONLY regret ive had after owning it for close to a year is that on the TRD Sport you CAN NOT run a smaller wheel than a 17”. It isn’t a huge deal, but I prefer more tire than wheel. Again, not a huge deal but I might have chosen the OR if I knew this before hand and then purchased the Sport hood as it is the main reason I chose the Sport over the OR.

Anybody realize that the 18s have tss and no one will lift it. Untill someone around here figures out a way around the tss your stuck with a stock truck. And what fun is a stock truck? I vote for the best gen 2nd gen

Is the tss standard on all 18 Tacoma’s or just ones with tech package?

Bought my new 15 Off Road juuuust before the 16’s came out. Got a little off the sticker and a sweet finance rate to take it. No regrats. Not a one.

I was in the same dilemma. Buy a lightly used 15' or a new 17'. I chose to pay a little extra for a fresh truck.

Interior in the 3G is lightyears ahead.

The 2nd gens are great trucks but the looks are already aging. 3G has the looks game on lockdown.

3rd gen has yet to be proven, but with Toyota to back it, I am willing to take a gamble on that. After all, they took care of the millions of dollars in 2G frame issues.

Also, the 3G might "lack" the low end TQ of the 2G, but it makes up for it with quite a bit more horse power. 3G is faster than the 2G.

Sit / drive both trucks and buy what tickles your fancy!

Who told you, you can't run anything smaller than a 17" wheel? You can absolutely run a 16" and many people do.

Not on the Sport. Brake rotors won’t allow it. My neighbor was pissed.

Why can't you run 16's on a sport? Thought they all had the same brakes on them? What hits?
