Lexus Credit Card Key Working in Tacoma

Yeah no luck doing this. Unfortunately the family that I think got my keys was clearly not from neighborhood. I'm pretty sure I know who got them since I dumped half my 3.5 gallon bucket in their kids bags. It was cold and I wanted to go inside lol.

So, unplanned forced upgrade incoming. I will deal with the issue of someone having a key to my truck for the time being. I'm hoping that if I change the transmitter, they won't know where the keys came from, if t hey would have any idea in the first place. I also had the key to my cap on the key ring as well though so that needs dealt with as well. What are ya gonna do?

 

All parts ordered. I guess we will see how it goes.

 

Just curious what everyone is using for Techstream. After spending 30 minutes dorking out with a 32 bit cable and getting ready to install a virtual machine or pulling out an old laptop, I just decided to say 'screw-it', sent back the 32 bit cable and got a 64 bit cable set.

I did not know Lexus offers this. My want for an IS350 has increased.

 

I ordered the cable at the bottom of the page. We will see how it goes. Amazon reviews are mixed, but people in this thread who used it said it worked.

 

Unsuccessful with techstream version 12.00.127 with MINI-VCI J2534 OBDII interface, it would not auto detect our Taco 2017, but just to confirm everything was functional I attached it to a 2011 Corolla all parameters came up automatically including VIN.
Then I returned to the Taco had to manually select the vehicle, engine, year, w/smart key, connected okay selected smart key registration but no blue utility button to continue on left side of screen. Did not know how to continue past this point, no option to continue to add a smart key. Anyone else notice this, what did I miss here?
I went back to the older version techstream 10.30.029 but there is no Highlander XLE selection, found Highlander 2015 with smart key option, could not find a IS250 with smart key as well. So I have not tried it attached to the Taco yet.
Anyone use 12.10.19 from obdii365? It is corrupt when you attempt to unpack the .rar file from their website.
Thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

 

I like the idea! I wonder if you could desolder those buttons and try the vacuum seal again to get it nice and thin

 

I just want to add another "success" data point to this thread. I purchased the Lexus proximity card and emergency key from Conicelli Toyota and took them to Cothron's locksmith in Austin to have them programmed and cut. The special-purpose computer they used said that 2017 Tacomas were a dealer-only thing, but it did say the 2015 Lexus IS250 was programmable, so he used that. Took him less than a minute to program the fob, and then he cut the emergency key and successfully tested everything. Thanks, Opey!

No reason I have found that this shouldn’t work on a 2018. Hoping we will get some confirmation from a 2018 owner soon. Like Carey above, you will probably have to have it programmed as the 2015 IS250 or 2016 Tacoma as il sure you won’t see 2018 on any locksmith’s computer yet.

 

I really like this but without buttons at all it just doesn't seem like something I could use. I hate that for the money these trucks have only 1 smart door handle. Too many times I get out of my truck and have been on passenger side and had to walk back around because that door is locked and my keys are buried in my pocket.

If we could add the smart handle to the passenger side then this key would be sweet. Still contemplating it though. The guy used to program was he fair? I don't know any locks smith and wouldn't mind heading out there since he's done it Before he'll be able to do it again.

 

Hopefully someone figures out a way to add the proximity feature to the passenger's side door handle. I'd be very interested in adding it to mine.

They seem to be under new management or something there. They are dropping Partznet from the name and don’t seem to be as liberal with the discounts as they used to be. I shop around a lot more buying pets online.

 

It costs $40 or less for the cable and TIS Techstream software from eBay. Just do it yourself, its simple.

 

Of course you need a compatible Windows computer.
For us Mac guys it isn’t as easy.
I’ve been thinking of trying to pick up a cheap used windows computer for things like these.

 

I have everything Apple, but a cheap old ass Windows laptop just for stuff like that. It's painful to use, but works. I absolutely refuse to infect any of my MacBooks by installing Windows. Keep that garbage off the Mac.

 

So after reading this entire thread I’m a little confused... so please bear with me. I’m very interested in this! So has anyone taken this to the Toyota dealer and had them reprogram the key? Or is everyone buying the software and doing it themselves? And now where is everyone buying the key cards? And if the dealer won’t do it? What info should I have to ask a locksmith?

 

I did not try the dealer as everything that happens there seems to take 2 hours.
If you don’t have the equipment or don’t want to try doing it yourself you need to find a locksmith that is able to program factory keys.

 

Yeah only have Mac here no pc. But from what I can tell I just need to get the key and find a lock Smith that will program a smart key. Tell them it’s for a 2014/15 is 250 and it should be good to go.

 

At this point any decent locksmith (who programs keys) should at least have the 2016 Tacoma in their system. I started this back in 2016 when the 3rd gen Taco was all new, and at least in my area relatively rare.

Of course if they somehow still don’t have the 2016 models in the system that 2015 is250 is what they need to use.
