No offence, but is this whole ‘TRD’ thing stupid?

My experience was "beggars can't be choosers", good used/off lease ones around here are usually gone before the complimentary wash dries. Sure I could have bought new but with the unreal mark up, that's not a payment, it's a mortgage.

If the TRD trucks don't come with some sort of performance upgrade, it should be considered pretty stupid.
No power upgrades and only some neato suspension bits and stickers. "Toyota Racing Development"? please.

Wow. I see a lot of similarities between that race truck and mine. It's almost as if Toyota took some of the Developments they came up with for that Pro-fessional Racing truck and applied them to my badass daily driver.

    All the things!
Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington, from 2002 to 2006.

However, I never said our work was allowed to be misspelled or have improper grammatical structure. I had plenty of professors that were extremely strict with grading our technical writing abilities.

I stated that our engineering professors were self-admittedly poor spellers. When they would be writing on the overhead projectors, they would constantly misspell words and always used the phrase, "that's why I'm an engineer". I tend to agree with this statement, as my brain handles memorizing numbers and I see patterns in those numbers, much better than I can remember whether it's label or lable. Fortunately, most work is completed on a computer processor these days, and they have built in spelling aids. However, back in my earlier years, my house always had an unabridged dictionary, which I'd use to check my work.

Engineering for me, has never been about what you know, but rather your ability to use all of your resources to find a proper answer. Of course, I'm not discrediting wisdom/experience and accumulation of "things you know".

Only thing I like on the trd pro is the blacked out headlights and tails. But they wanna charge you 2 grand for those HL. So yeah save yourself 10 grand or more and just get a 4x4 model if you like going off-road. I love my Tacoma and it's just an SR5. I can't see myself paying 50 grand for a Tacoma tho. I would just jump up to a nicely equipped tundra for that price. They pretty much get the same gas mileage.

I put TRD pro wheels on my 4Runner from a gen when TRD Pro wasn't even available. Also have an actual TuRD sticker. Oh and I had a TRD Pro grille on my SR Tacoma. Sue me...

TRD, the same TRD that sells stickers and shit, and Toyota have run a prepared Tundra in the Baja 1000. They won 1st in class (Stock Production - Full Size) in 2015 and it wasn't all that much different than the TRD Pro. The suspension was Bilstein 9300, Eibach coils, Deaver leafs.

Whether the FOX they use on the one you buy are better or not is debatable since the 9300 are 4.5" bodies. They still made them fit since they had to use stock parts otherwise.

Otherwise pretty much stock, including UCA & LCA, spindles, steering, wheel bearings, brakes. They used the front pads, cold air intake and exhaust that you can buy from TRD.

They put in a roll cage, Mastercraft seats.

So actually, yeah, parts of Toyota trucks on the lot are race proven. But that would be true down to a lowly SR, too.

I thought the TRD stickers/badging were intended primarily for the sales representatives of dealerships so they could easily identify what vehicle/package they were looking at while on the lot. I took mine off ASAP.

I agree with OP. Thanks for the  guys and gals. Funny thread.

Why can’t we just take off the branding and just be united TOYOTA owners?

4.5” shocks are very far from stock. Suspension is the biggest part of go fast off road...

However, I still think the trd parts are nice quality
