Few question for you. Is Koyo and Timken the same company or is one better than the other?

Are you still using Dorman hub flanges and are they labelled with made in china on them? ( Shipping to Canada, so if NAFTA..., but elsewhere will cost more in duties)

Lastly I think I seen somewhere you pack your bearings with Mobile 1 synthetic grease, if not what do you use?

 

I honestly have no idea how the customs deal works, sorry. I thought by putting gift was the best I could do?

If you find a better way please share.

 

I had it marked down as two cv dust seals. Quite possible I sent them to another Canadian customer.

Want me to send the seals out or refund the $30 for the seals?

Koyo manufactures the tapered roller bearing for Timken.

I have been faithful with Dorman but may look into another manufacturer because Dorman wants to hike their prices up which I do not want to do with my prices.

There really is no need to pack these bearings. they are properly packed by Koyo and as long as your seals are not damaged you will get many miles out of them.

The other stuff you hear is a gimmick.

 

All good, it happens when youre as busy as you are. If you could re-send them that would be great, I replace the seals when i do my bearings so ill definitely need them when my next bearing inevitably craps out.

Starting to wondering if the guy at the post office incorrectly charged me for that initial import fee. Theyve been crazy busy over there as well and maybe he didnt pay attention to the package details and just charged me. I didnt pay any import on the second package which is the weirdest part.

So I didn't realize how bad my old hubs/bearings were. As soon as I swapped these out there was a noticeable reduction in noise when coasting from acceleration. Dead quiet now. Also when cruising on the freeway I can feel the truck is smoother. Thank you again @nj636

KOYO's+O-RING+Dust Seals, these are awesome. First rate. Probably my next set. I eat wheel bearings and I drive a lot. My 2012 has 171,500. Every 60-80,000. Nice work. Any Idea if 3rd generation has better bearings?

 

With a 60-80k expected service life? Dream on bro Toyota only has to pay for work until 36k for most tacos unless you buy an extended warranty, they have no reason to make it last longer since it already makes it to double the standard factory warranty period

 

One can always hope. They seem to be doing good otherwise. So far the engine, transmission, u joints, fuel pump, water pump, alternator, fuel pressure regulator, radiator, heater core have all lasted far-and-away longer than any American truck I ever drove. 700,000 miles and change, I wish I bought a Yota 22 years ago.

 

171k +. Been through one set of tie rod ends, one set of ball joints, two sets of front wheel bearings, leaf springs, shocks and loaded struts. One set of front brake pads. 16 tires. If it burns to the ground next time I drive, its still the most reliable rig I ever ran.

 

Edit. Never mind it was my rebate stuff from Smith and Wesson from 6 months ago finally showing up! Fuck happy that stuff is finally here but shit.

 

I picked up a new bearing at the dealer a few weeks ago for when I have time to do this job. Although I have a press, your assemblies are priced well below what I was charged for just the bearing. I'm going to see if I can still return it tomorrow, and if so, I'll be sending an order your way.

They also sold me part 90312-96001 "Seal, Type V Oil" and 90316-A0001 "Seal, Type Oil". There was what appears to be a large o-ring in the box with the bearing too.

Which of these will I no longer need if I buy an assembly? I assume one is the CV seal and the other is the seal that goes between the hub and bearing. No idea where the o-ring goes, but I figured it would be obvious after pulling the old one.

The 90316-A0001 is the cv seal, i have those for $15 each. The o-ring goes on the back of the bearing itself but my assembly includes that.
