Anyone have any idea what the hell this is? My Fiance and I ran in to a bunch of them feeding on flowers today while off-roading in AZ. Nearest I can tell is possibly of the wasp family but, I don't think so. Wish I had some better close up pictures. They are pretty good size, 1 inch plus.

If I remember correctly, its some species of hornet, not overly agressive but territorial and pack a hell of a sting.

I remember a lady at work had one that would guard her front walkway and attack anything that came near it. The damn thing would fly back and forth above the sidewalk.

^^^ That's a silly question to ask Chris. He won't read past "do you think fire" before he says YES!

LMAO I had a swarm of bees take housing right in front of my front door in San Diego, I was standing in the front yard when the swarm came in the sky suddenly went black they circled over my house down in to my back yard then back around and nested or should I say hived? :( In my front yard. So off to Home Depot for some hornets nest spray, the foam kind, worked great. I waited till early evening when they were all back in the hive and then came out and douched the shit out of them then ran back in the house. Came out the next morning and they were all dead. Damn I should have took pictures.
