Yeah man but those domestic trucks are wayyyyyy overinflated on list price vs. what you actually going to pay if you know how to negotiate. Promise you that!

No disrespect intended, OP, but I am tired of reading this same complaint over and over and over.

It is all perspective. I am coming from a 2009, 117 horsepower, Honda Fit and to me, the Taco has plenty of power even fully loaded with passengers and camping gear. I have power to pass on the steepest grades around here. How much power does one really need anyway? I don't need a lot because I don't try to squeeze between cars traveling at 60mph when I am at a dead stop. In the off chance that I do need to merge with traffic that quickly, I will wait patiently until there's a nice open space so I can avoid cutting anyone off. I knew the limitations of my truck before I bought it and I knew it was not going to drive like a sports car or tow a 30ft trailer. That knowledge came from diligently researching this huge purchase and test driving the vehicle before sitting down to sign the papers.

I understand that power also factors into the driving experience. However, my Taco is a joy to drive because the cabin is quiet, the JBL rocks my socks, and I can roll with the sunroof down on warm days. The off-road performance is solid and thanks to the reliability, I can off-road knowing the truck wont leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere like a member's Jeep did a few threads back. It is fuel efficient, has all the tech I wanted (and even some I didn't want), and yeah, its great looking to boot. Could it be better? Sure, but no vehicle is going to be perfect. My point is you are always going to be trading something off and you'll save a lot more money if you just spend a few more bucks to make it right for you, rather than dumping it and starting over.

Thanks for reading and best of luck to you either way, man.

Yeah it sucks so many people have the same complaint I guess and wish Toyota would do something about it. For now I guess they don’t need to do jack.

Oh, negotiations are where it's at! The wife has pissed off quite a few sales managers with her technique and tactics! We have gotten deeeeeeeeply discounted vehicles for years.

Also, we were in a bit of a pickle, as previous vehicle absorbed a dumbass going about 60 texting while my wife was stopped...somehow I still have a relatively functional wife after that wreck. Kinda needed another set of wheels. Couldn't play the "have the sales guys see you walk out multiple times game". Went in to Chevy, Ford, then Toyota all on one lovely Saturday after getting back in town from 2 months in Cali...talked to quite a few dealers while I was in CA for that time frame. They knew what I wanted, and that I was in the mood to buy. They didn't want my money bad enough...F 'em! I love the Toyota, and it does what I need it to do. Hope you can find your happy place in the right truck!

The sales numbers are what corporate sees...and you are right, they don't need to do a thing.

This 2019 Silverado looks pretty good, they already offer a 420hp 6.2l, I could see one of these if I change to a full size.

This was the first thing I thought when I saw the truck. The profile pic of these two trucks is very similar. I dig the front and back views, but I just can't unsee a Ridgeline from the side.

Until it affects sales, why would they?

Sales numbers indicate they're crushing the competition since the 3rd gen debut.

But they're not going back to the 4.0 so even with the new drivetrain, they're still beating the rest.

Curious to see what Ford brings.

Look at a 2014 Tacoma now. In a few months, look at a 2015. Next year, look at a 2016. Three year residual values is the ticket. And, while everyone says there is a huge difference between the 2nd and 3rd gen of these trucks, there is not much difference. The 4.0 was less efficient than the 3.5. The 4.0 was slower than the 3.5. The torque down low? C'mon man, neither truck has great low rpm torque. That's like arguing who is slower, the turtle or the snail...
The 3rd gen is largely a refresh of the 2nd gen with some new sheet metal and parts.

Every vehicle gets hit hard in the first year. Who gets hit the least is the question.

Turtle is faster. I've seen it with my own eyes.

And 95% of the people sitting on the opposite side of his desk do too. It is a 2 way street.
