I'd be up for a zero degree here.

Angled up 20 degrees. We won't make them at 0.

Reason is we have fixtures and run parts is large batches to keep down production time which equates to cost.

Building them any other way other than our standard 20 degrees adds over 1 hour of production time per set.

Is that powder coated? Also, just curious about how you’re building them. What alloy, will you heat treat after welding, etc...? Have some background with AL and know how much fun it can be.

Pure guestimation, but based upon steel being approximately 2.5 times the density of aluminum, assuming he's using thicker walled aluminum stuffs, I'd wager it'd be in the range of 50% +/- 10% the weight of a steel set.. :)

Getting pricy but still interested. I’d likely go DCLB with kick out, powder coated, no filler. Got a estimated shipping cost to 84109?

Also, still curious about construction. What alloy, will you be heat treating them after welding, usually requires some additional alignment after heat treat, etc... just curious if you’ve got all this figured out? Also like the look of nice AL welds, like stacks of nickels. Do you plan to sand them smooth or show off your handy work?

The design is still a work in progress. The tubing will be 6061 and all the formed sheet metal will be 5052. 5xxx series aluminum isn't heat treatable so unless we step up to 6xxx series plate, we will not be heat treating. But I don't think it will make a significant difference since we are more interested in total deflection. Total deflection won't change with HT, only whether we permanently deform. If we use a large safety factor and stay away from the yield strength of aluminum then we should be good. Obviously, we'll be building a set to test.

Is that a bicycle frame in that picture?

    Is this still happening?

I already have your sliders but would happily switch to aluminum.

I've done the heavy armored thing with my previous Jeep. I want to keep the Tacoma as light as possible and these would be ideal.

I already ordered a set of sliders so I am bummed. I would have rather had the Aluminum sliders. Im not a heavy brasher but I'd rather break an aluminum slider than the side of my rig.

I unfortunately read the whole thread. Not sure what dude's problem is? People buy expensive, light duty shit ALL THE TIME. It's prevalent in every industry. Niche markets are generally the much more informed markets. They know what they are getting into.

That said, I'd pay the extra to have heavy duty full length aluminum steps. I mean light duty aluminum sliders. At 6" lift and mostly desert running and adventuring, rocker strikes are not really a thing. I've already done my share of wheeling with the bad ass ultra duty factory steps and they've handled all the brush and shoe strikes I've thrown at them.

Aluminum sliders make sense for people like me. FYI, don't count me in anytime soon. I got a cap to build and front Kings to buy first.

Interested but probably a month out from having funds for it.

Hope to see some pics of a completed set with filler plate.

You guys are great! I love the idea that you have identified a need and then make it a reality for the customer. I wish I had waited just a little longer before buying my sliders. I would be in for a set with fill plates.

Will these still have the strength to lift/jack the side of the truck in a pinch? (I assume yes, but I am not familiar enough with aluminum properties and stresses over time)
