No offence, but is this whole ‘TRD’ thing stupid?

Yes. You were blocked because some people feel that rice is not a quality food. Ninjas and samurai would disagree. They loved to eat all kinds of rice products. Rice buns. Sticky rice. Fried rice. Sushi rice. Rice cakes. Rice wine vinegar. Saki. Rice balls. Rice triangles. Now I’m probably gonna get blocked because rice.

I noticed. Sr5 existed waaaaaaaay before power windows. It was a trim upgrade where the 5 speed was the fundamental component hence the nomenclature.

It doesn’t mean that anymore. But that’s what it meant.

Really great upgrades and you would think they would rate a badge, like the GTO or the 289 HP etc etc, but a sticker? I get what this whole TRD tread is really about; the sticker. Come on Toyota if you are saying Ya spent all this boat load of cash on the racing development then pony up for an actual badge. Sticka...We don't need no stinking sticka! A few more horses would be really great!

Dude really I don’t know what this sticker is about. Nothing in a production TRD is race ready, and Toyota’s production r&d doesn’t drink from a pool of Baja race tech. It’s its own thing developed for its own thing.

And no offense, but that tells me you know little about what goes into racing development.

OP wanted to know the actual tech that came out of TRD's work in motor sports.... those are some of the things derived from said program. I am sure some marketing genius came up with the notion of monoblock multi-piston calipers. And not a race car engineer.

I think trds work in desert racing is superficial and really only exists to sell production trucks. They have done nothing groundbreaking. It’s marketing for them. They like to show what a mostly stock truck can do in Baja, and that’s neat. But in the end it’s shock absorber options and a sticker. There is a shitload more “racing development” going on in some no name guys warehouse in santee as we speak, and on any given day really. People building things from the ground up on their own. That’s why desert racing is considered the “punk rock” of racing. It’s driven and pushed by random dudes with ideas and welders.

And it’s getting more and more baller every day. Electronics getting multiplexed and new approaches to transmissions. People borrowing from formula tech. I guess what I’m trying to say is that trd isn’t developing anything for desert racing, they’re developing a way to make money.

And TRD spans far beyond Baja etc. Yes they market farkle and chi-chi bits... but to ignore the technological impact on street vehicles is simply short sided.

Lest we forget that D for development. To develop, to grow or cause to grow and become more mature, advanced, or elaborate.

My Infiniti has AWD with some computer controlled wizardry. Sure cars all over have that, but the one my car uses came straight from NISMO's GTR development program.

Agreed, trd isn’t just Baja/desert racing. But as it applies to tacomas, that’s really the only thing there is. Do not bring up nastruck. Don’t do it.

And I love trd. To me trd is all of us developing our tacomas /hippie rant
