Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

Update: My laptop running Windows 10 still cannot read the serial number, but I was able to read the dongle serial number running PCMflash on a desktop running Windows 7. Realizing now that the serial number is also printed right on the side of the dongle. Still, need to be able to get it working on the laptop so I can actually tune the truck, lol.

 

Turn off windows defender on 10?

 

Yes, Windows Defender is off, and PCMflash runs. All drivers are installed, but it says "USB dongle is not accessible (0)." in PCMflash. The dongle shows up in the Guardant diagnostic utility in the control panel, just not in PCMflash.

 

Assume you've tried all of your USB ports? Some have reported it works in some ports and not in others and I've even seen a couple of folks mention that it only worked when they used a splitter oddly enough. I know it's frustrating, so hang in there. It does/will work!

 

This laptop only has two ports and yes I've tried both. Frustrating to say the least. I guess I'll have to go buy a splitter and try that.

 

Maybe delete the drivers, uninstall. Reboot. Reinstall drivers, then immediately open PCMFlash. And i'd make super sure Defender is off b/c what you describe also sounds like something Defender can do where it can limit an application from accessing USB devices if it's not "trusted"

 

Tried that too, lol. Defender is definitely off. I also tried turning off any power management settings for the USB ports and running PCMflash as administrator.

Can someone in the Pinellas FL area help me do this tuner set up/download crap? I do not want to mess it up and feel a bit overwhelmed with the process. Please call or text me at 727-430-2832 Just got the dongle in today and looked the the instructions online and almost had a heart attack lol.

I’m in San Diego, wouldn’t mind helping anyone out, it’s just the back and forth to register the dongle that you really can’t rush it. But once that’s done, I’m down to help anyone out.

That's why it's called "Orange Virus". No in all seriousness, I don't know.

 

Well I know win defender is supposed to be disabled. But I have no idea what that virus means. So not sure if that's a normal file and win defender is reading it as a virus or what, and that's why we disable win defender while going through the flash process. I guess I'm not much help, but thats the only thing that comes to mind.

 

Disabling windefender makes since for flashing but not for downloading.
I mean, the link provided in the instructions is a low integrity Russian software sharing site.
How am I the first person to bump into this?

 

My Windows Defender is up an running with no issues. I’m running Windows 10 on my Mac Pro via boot camp.

 

Noticed the Software was by a Russian company as well. Did alittle research and it looks like this software is used all across the world in various car communities.

 

Please go and try and download the pcmflash software again per the ovtune instructions on thier webpage.
His link is not the oem provider site, and it’s very common for popular pirated software to be embedded with viruses and malware.
I suspect this is the case.
