Best tires for the northwest?

im wondering what your guys take on the best tire for the northwest is? Something that handles snow, ice, occasional sand and mud and of course the down pours we get.

 

You're going to get a bunch of different answers here and there really isnt anything good for ice unless its studded. That being said, my choice would be the cooper s/t maxx.

Duratracs

 

This is what I have and I live in Oregon. We get ice and snow in winter and as long as I drive slow and steady, I'm able to get the taco to wherever I need to go.

 

I cant believe I get to be the first one to recommend the BFG All terrains. That spot is almost always taken!! BFG like the Duratrac has the snowflake on the side wall and that is all you need...lol. Seriously I have replaced both the OEM tires on the Tacoma and our F150 with them and they are a step up.

 

On my 05 Tacoma I had toyo MTs and they actually were great in the snow but I'm thinking I'll grab a set of the Ko2s. Now I just need to find some wheels

 

Per tire rack. These are the all-terrain tires with the three peak mountain snowflake symbol.

Dynapro AT-M's meet the industry standards for severe snow service requirements, even though they don't have the 3 peaks symbol. Just another option.

 

The local Discount Tire said they have heard good feedback regarding the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W tires. They are next on my list after I use up my stock tires.

 

BFG KO2. Best all around tire imo. Have used mine in the snow a couple times this winter and they continue to impress me. Fantastic traction in the rain and dry pavement as well.

 

I went with the BRO2s as well due to their all around style. Shout out to your avatar, awesome closer for your posts.

As far as Grabbers are concerned, my buddy @90yota is going to the KBROs soon as his don't handle snow well at all in Montana.

Ko2’s def are a good choice. Aggressive but not too aggressive.

 

I agree completely on that, used to run MT's all the time when I was younger. I never wheeled enough to warrant the look and have shit traction in wet or snow. Too bad I think those days of being a comical genious are behind him now...not from ability, but from a passion to do it anymore.

 

Agree 100%. His Ace Ventura days are gone but not forgotten. Watched when nature calls last week, lol. Also agree on the MTs. Funny when I see most people on MTs on their daily that drive 95% pavement. To each their own

I assume you have seen all of his great works? Yea man, as a kid one of my biggest mistakes was hanging out with a friend while my parents went to see that in the theatre. My pops wouldn't stop talking about the movie for almost two weeks!

 

Jim Carey's opus aside - I'm sort of trying to answer the same question here. I do a fair amount of highway mileage in the summer, go up to Mt. Baker a fair bit in the winter. Got a second set of wheels with Blizzaks mounted and love how those deal with true winter conditions on Mt. Baker Highway - but even in the winter, it seems like I'm optimizing for a pretty small part of my overall driving. And the rest of the year, I find that the all seasons (stock Dunlops) suck on wet dirt/logging roads when I'm out trail building in the spring/fall.

So I've been thinking whether there's one tire that can do it all, if not perfectly than well enough. Is that the Duratrac? As in, better off road-ish (not truly off-road, but on logging/dirt roads and such) than an all season, almost as quiet on the highway as an all season, almost as good in snow as a proper winter tire, almost as good on tread life as an all season, as good in wet conditions as either a winter or all season tire?

 

Sorry but your never really gonna get a tire that does good off road and in the snow and is as quiet as an all season.
