How often should I change my front and read differential oil? I am getting mixed messages.

    Thanks KP

Without looking at the manual, I think 30k is standard.

When I had my 07 I did it every 30-40k. But I did front, rear diff. Transfer an the transmission (6spd manual). All at the same time.

30 K is accepted but it is a bit over kill. If all you do is commuting and don't do a lot of towing you can double that.

I do a fair amount of towing a boat and 4-wheelers plus off-highway about once a week. I just changed mine at 31k (front, rear diffs and T-Case). I also did a drain and fill of the transmission (actually twice). My tranny was about 1/3 qt low and there is no leaks so it was low from the factory and the stealer also missed it on the checks.

Curious what mixed messages you are getting. Plan on doing the oil changes yourself?

I just did mine. 53k, bought it with 25k on it. The rear was very dark but not yet black, the front was amber and the T case looked almost new. I don't think the previous owner changed them at all. Very little sludge on the magnet.

Want another mixed message? I put Mobil 1 75-90 in all three, some use a different oil in the T case and some don't like Mobil 1. I also put more than 3 quarts in the rear. Should have used 1.1 T case, 1.6 in the front and 3 in the rear which is 5.7 quarts. I used 6 quarts.

There are a couple of threads I referenced when I changed mine.

I used to change all of mine every 30k but they came out looking pretty clean. Now I do them at 50k...

If you are a normal driver, follow the manual with the wt and GL spec it calls for.

If you are an abuser, you can still follow the manual, just the severe duty cycle.

If you go all syn, it's pretty safe to double the manual, especially on the normal duty definition, while using the normal duty interval even with severe duty use.

If any of that scares you, use independent lab testing to prove what 'your' truck likes. Or just follow the manual, period (it's conservative)

I changed our work chevy for the first time at 220K and it was fine. Went back with synthetic. I do change the taco out at 50K intervals.
Getting water in there is the scariest thing I can think of happening and it takes less than 30K to find that out.
